Wizards starters: PG: John Wall, SG: Bradley Beal, SF: Paul Pierce, PF: Nene, C: Marcin Gortat

Thunder's starters: PG: Russell Westbrook, SG: Andre Roberson, SF: Kevin Durant, PF: Serge Ibaka, C: Steven Adams

The Thunder has struggled on the road with a 9-13 record, including four losses in their last six games away from Oklahoma City. However, on this East coast trip, they have won their first two games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat.

Oklahoma City was able to beat the Wizards in early January but that was at home, and it was a game that came down to the wire. Now that it’s at the Verizon Center in D.C., the Wizards have the upper edge. Washington has the third best home record in the league at 18-5. Only the Portland Trail Blazers have more wins (19) on their home court. Washington has won nine of their last 11 games at home, so it should be a tough battle for the Thunder.

In 13 career games against the Washington Wizards, Kevin Durant averages 30.2 points per game, which is the third highest point per game average of his career against any team in the league. Durant loves playing against his hometown team which only fires the rumors of his potential free agent landing spot in two years.

Not only is Oklahoma City a powerful offense because of their two-headed monster of Durant and Westbrook, but they are a very good defensive team. The Thunder forces 17.4 turnovers per game and turning those turnovers into 19.6 points per game. A lot of their offense is one-on-one isolation but they do a great job of creating turnovers and turning them into easy points.

Washington’s big men have been anchoring this team as they’ve won seven of their last ten games. Marcin Gortat, Nene, and Kevin Seraphin are carrying the bulk of the scoring load and are efficient in doing so. In the last seven games Gortat is averaging 69 percent shooting from the field, Nene 51 percent, and Seraphin 69 percent. John Wall has done a great job setting them up for easy baskets and they are capitalizing.

Washington has been playing good ball and are five games behind the red hot Atlanta Hawks for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. The biggest reason for their rise in the conference is their defense. The Wizards are top-three in the league in defensive field-goal percentage (44.0) and points allowed (96.9).

Oklahoma City defeated the Miami Heat Tuesday night getting them over the .500 mark for the first time this season. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are healthy and back in the fold, which is good news in regards to a playoff push, The Thunder are now three games out of the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

The Oklahoma City Thunder (21-20) will head to D.C. to face the Washington Wizards (29-13) for the second and final meeting of the season. The Thunder was able to pull out a 109-102 victory on their court back in early January.
