Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley has sustained a serious facial injury, the team has announced. He will be out for Game 4 with no timetable for return.
Conley was taken to a local medical facility in Portland after taking an elbow to the face by C.J. McCollum late in the third quarter of Game 3. He left the game and did not return.
He will now return to Memphis for further evaluation. Game 4 will be on Tuesday where the Grizzlies will look to sweep the Blazers. If Portland is able to extend the series, Game 5 will be on Wednesday, April 29th, where Conley’s status will be unknown.
Conley has been a key to Memphis’ playoffs success. He missed the final four games of the regular season with an ankle injury but returned to play the first three games of the playoffs. Conley has averaged 16.0 points and 3.7 assists on 50 percent shooting against Portland.
With him ruled out for Game 4 and Beno Udrih’s status up in the air, the Grizzlies will have Nick Calathes as their only healthy point guard. Calathes played well in 27 minutes on Saturday night, but the lack of depth could ultimately hurt the team.
