Chicago Bulls Re-Sign Aaron Brooks to One-Year Agreement

Guard Aaron Brooks will return to Chi-town for at least another season, inking a one-year contract with the Bulls. Brooks was the backup point guard last season for Derrick Rose when he was playing, and he will stay in that role for 2015-2016 most likely.

CHICAGO, IL -- Aaron Brooks will continue to be the safety valve in Chicago, at least for one more season. The 30 year-old Seattle native has backed up Derrick Rose for a season now, and agreed on a one-year deal with the Bulls to fill that role in 2015-2016.

Brooks is a sturdy point guard who was selected into the association by Houston in the first-round of the 2006 NBA Draft, and has spent most of his career playing for the Rockets. He peaked in 2009-2010 season, in which he appeared and started in all 82 regular season games and put up a stat line of 19.6 points per game and 5.3 assists per game.

With the Bulls in 2014-2015, Brooks also appeared in every regular season contest, starting 21 as a very dependable second-option for the point man. Backing up the injury-prone Derrick Rose, the 6-foot Oregon Duck put up 11.6 points and 3.2 assists per game.

Chicago has not made too many moves this offseason, mostly just refining and locking up their current squad from the 2015 Playoffs, in which they were knocked out by the Eastern Conference Champion Cleveland Cavaliers. They did fire head coach Tom Thibodeau, a bold move considering his success in the league as the top man in Chicago. Thibodeau reportedly was rough on players and fellow workers, and so a positive switch in environment was made in hiring Iowa State Cyclones coach Fred Hoiberg.

Jimmy Butler and Mike Dunleavy both inked new deals with the Bulls, solidifying some more good years for Chicago before all the veterans' worth expires. Drafting Bobby Portis all the way at 22nd in the 2015 NBA Draft in Brooklyn a few weeks back was a steal for Chicago, and his energy and scoring abilities are sure to be appreciated by Hoiberg, a big offensive guy at Iowa State Cyclones.
