The Michigan Wolverines beat the Detroit Titans 71-62 on Thursday night to boost their record to 3-0. Caris LeVert led the Wolverines with 21 points, while Detroit were led by Juwan Howard Jr, who scored 24 points.

The win boosts Michigan to 3-0 on the season, their sixth 3-0 start in the last seven seasons. The Wolverines also got big nights from Zak Irvin, and Derrick Walton Jr, who scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. Their starting guards were the big difference in this game as they combined for 55 of the team’s 71 points.

The Wolverines are looking to make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament. They made the regional final of the NCAA Tournament last year, before losing to Kentucky 75-72. That was just a year after they made it all the way to the National Championship game before a loss to another Bluegrass State power Louisville.

The Titans drop to 1-2 on the season but their losses have to been on the road to big power schools like Oregon and Michigan. Junior guard Anton Wilson struggled with just five points on the night in 33 minutes of play. That was his lowest point total in 30+ minutes played since he scored five points in 31 minutes in a triple-overtime loss to Stony Brook almost exactly one year ago.

The Titans are looking for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, when they lost to Kansas in the first round. The Titans haven't enjoyed NCAA Tournament success since 1999, when they made it to the second round.
