The Manhattan Jaspers have beaten the Marist Red Foxes by a score of 60-38 at Draddy Gym in Riverdale, NY. This was the Jasper’s home opener after starting the first six games of their season on the road. The Jaspers improve to 2-5, and 1-1 in the MAAC with this win. With the loss the Red Foxes drop to 1-7 on the year, and 0-2 in the MAAC. This was the first of two meetings between Manhattan and Marist, the next one being in late February. This win puts the Jaspers to 27-15 all time vs. Marist, winning 13 of the last 14 at Draddy gym.

The game was all Manhattan from the opening tip. Manhattan quickly got out to a 12-0 lead before Marist’s K.J. Good hit a layup at 11:21 on the clock. That led the Red Foxes to go on a run closing the gap to 14-8 before the Jaspers went on an 8-0 run taking a 22-8 lead. The Jaspers went into the locker room at halftime with a commanding 29-19 lead.

After halftime the Jaspers started right from where they left off scoring the first seven points of the second half. The Jasper’s scored 31 points in the second half to take the game 60- 38. The Jaspers played fantastic on the defensive end as well, forcing the Red Foxes into 19 turnovers. The rest of the Jaspers contributed to the cause as well, with guard Rich Williams contributing 13 points and 3 rebounds to the Jasper’s cause. Former York Prep Panther Shane Richards finished with five points, and one rebound.  The 38 points scored by Marist were the fewest the Jaspers have allowed since a 34-31 win in March of 2013.

The Marist Red Foxes’ best performer was forward Phillip Lawrence who finished with 15 points, two steals, and five rebounds. The Red Foxes dreadful game showed up on the stat sheet only converting on 8 of 41 shots, good for 19.5%. On top of that, the Red Foxes only hit four threes on 19 attempts which was good for 21.1%.

The Jaspers will look to continue their momentum stemming from this game next week when they go up against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University at Madison Square Garden. The Red Foxes will look to get back on track when they go to UPenn on December 9th.
