A wise man once said, “It is not how you start, it is how you finish.” Sometimes though wise man, it is about how you start and that was the case for the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night. Texas missed their first 12 shots before the first media timeout at the under 16 minute mark to fall behind Baylor 12-0 after just four minutes of play.

That was just the start of a very long day in Waco which saw the Baylor Bears knock down 12 triples en route to an 83-60 win at the Ferrell Center over the Texas Longhorns. Baylor played just eight players on Saturday night with four of them scoring in double-figures. Kenny Chery led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Royce O’Neale chipped in 20 points while Johnathan Motley and Taurean Prince each scored 13 points. Rico Gathers was a beast on the glass gathering 15 rebounds.

Texas saw big games from Jonathan Holmes who scored 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Cameron Ridley and Isaiah Taylor each added double-doubles on the night in the defeat. Ridley finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Taylor finished with 16 points and 10 assists. Texas struggled mightily from behind the arc converting only 5-of-26 shots for a percentage of 19.2%.

With the win, the Baylor Bears jumped into fifth place with a 4-4 record. They are sitting just 2.5 games behind first-placed Kansas. Texas, meanwhile, fell to eighth place alone with a 3-5 record in the Big 12.

Baylor returns to action on Wednesday night in Waco as they host the TCU Horned Frogs. Texas will look to break a three-game losing streak when the Oklahoma State Cowboys travel to Austin for a Wednesday night showdown.
