Indiana announced on Monday that they have dismissed sophomore forward Emmitt Holt and internally disciplined freshman forward Thomas Bryant after being cited by Indiana police for possession of alcohol last week.

Here is the full release from Indiana:

"Sophomore Emmitt Holt has been dismissed from the men’s basketball program effective immediately for demonstrating exceptionally poor judgment in the circumstances surrounding his recent citation, particularly coming after his involvement in the Devin Davis accident which should have motivated him to make better decisions."

"Freshman Thomas Bryant, as a result of his citation, is receiving internal team discipline and is subject to additional discipline for any future failure to live up to his responsibilities to the program."

Above it makes reference to the Devin Davis situation which happened in 2014 when Davis was struck by a car being driven by Holt.

With Holt being dismissed, that is the third player dismissed in the past year for the Indiana men's basketball program. Dismissing Holt was a move that had to be made as this was his second bad decision he has made while at Indiana.

This sheds light on what may be going on behind the scenes with head coach Tom Crean and this program, because this has happened fairly often and three dismissals within four months is not a good look for one of the most storied programs in college basketball.

The Hoosiers are projected as a top-15 team entering the 2015-16 season and have some marquee non conference games (at Duke, Maui Invitational), before they start a tough Big Ten conference slate.

Indiana has been projected to be fighting for a regular season Big Ten crown, but having lost three forwards this summer because of dismissals. They will be lacking size down low, something they also battled in 2014.

They are led by their guard play in Yogi Ferrell and James Blackmon Jr., but to be able to make a run in March and have a successful season rebounding is important. If the Hoosiers struggle with size it could be an ongoing issue as the season unfolds.

Once again, this is not a good situation for Indiana basketball heading into the 2015 season. Hopefully the message in Bloomington is clear and nothing like this happens again any time soon.
