There is more bad news for Devonte Fields. After reports surfaced that he would not be allowed back at TCU, it was announced that Fields would transfer to Stephen F. Austin. It was announced on Friday that transfer to SFA will not be happening after TCU blocked his release by making him ineligible to receive a transfer waiver.

The following is from a statement released by Stephen F. Austin.

“After originally agreeing to grant a release to Devonte Fields, which would allow him to enroll and play football at Stephen F. Austin, Texas Christian University has since convened a committee and declared that Fields does not meet the requirements to attain the one-time transfer waiver.

“The decision by TCU renders Fields ineligible, prohibiting him from participating in football related activities at SFA for at least one year. In light of these developments, Fields has decided not to enroll at SFA and will not be a member of the Lumberjack football team.”

This puts Fields in a precarious position. Without receiving a transfer waiver, Fields will not be able to transfer to any school without having to sit out for the entire 2014 season. Fields could sit out the year and prepare for the 2015 draft, but there will still be plenty of questions about his off-the-field activities and behavior.

Fields was the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after recording 57 tackles, 10 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss. He missed most of the 2013 season with a foot injury and a subsequent surgery to repair that foot.

One has to believe that this saga has another twist in it and it will not be long before everyone finds out.
