9:07 PM EST - Our kickoff will take place at 9:15 PM EST.

9:02 PM EST - Both of these programs would like to prove that they are championship-caliber, and the path to doing so begins tonight.

8:56 PM EST - The LSU Tigers and Wisconsin Badgers are preparing to kickoff their 2014 campaigns in a matter of minutes.

8:41 PM EST - LSU has a history with neutral-site season openers; they faced TCU and Oregon in Arlington, Tx. last season and in 2011, respectively. They won both matchups.

8:38 PM EST - Heading into this matchup, the Tigers have won their last eleven season openers, and Wisconsin has won their last sixteen.

8:34 PM EST - We are growing ever closer to kickoff from NRG Stadium in Houston.

8:28 PM EST - If Leonard Fournette is as good as advertised, the Badgers may have a tough time stopping him and the LSU offense with the inexperience they have.

8:23 PM EST - Outside linebacker Vince Biegel is very talented, as he recorded 25 tackles last year in backup duty as a redshirt freshman. He will be flanked by senior Derek Landisch who has recorded 81 tackles over the previous three years.

8:19 PM EST - Replacing the entire front seven is going to be tough, and to ask them to do so against a talented team like LSU is even tougher.

8:15 PM EST - The key for Wisconsin, both tonight and throughout the season, is the defense. Only 3 starters and all of those are in the secondary.

8:09 PM EST - Another player for Wisconsin to look out for is Corey Clement. He played sparingly in 2013, usually in a backup role. He played in 8 games, totaling 547 yards and 7 touchdowns on 67 carries. That comes out to an 8.2 average for each carry. Like Gordon, he has great speed. It will be interesting to see how much he factors into this game.

8:05 PM EST - We all know about Melvin Gordon for the Badgers, but the unknown commodity is Tanner McEvoy at quarterback. He is reportedly a better athlete and has better mobility than Joel Stave. Still, without much film at the FBS level, it is difficult to know how well he will, or can, play at the quarterback spot.

8:00 PM EST - As you can see, that schedule certainly favors the Badgers to reach the Big 10 title game. They have an outside chance of making the playoffs, but they need to take care of LSU, run the table, and win in the Big 10 Championship game. That is no easy task.

7:53 PM EST - As of right now, this will be the toughest test for Wisconsin in 2014 before a possible appearance in the Big 10 Championship Game. The Badgers schedule is as follows: vs. LSU, Western Illinois, Bowling Green, South Florida, at Northwestern, Illinois, Maryland, at Rutgers, at Purdue, Nebraska, at Iowa, and Minnesota.

7:45 PM EST - A bit more on the Badgers in 2013. They had a tendency to struggle against teams that were successful in the passing game. Hackenberg (Penn State), Kelly (Arizona State), and Shaw (South Carolina) all did well againt the Badgers.

7:37 PM EST - The Badgers had a cleaner 2013, chalking up fifty-four penalties, for 474 yards.

7:34 PM EST - In 2013, the Tigers commited ninety penalties, for 732 yards.

7:30 PM EST - Fifth-year senior linebacker Chris Borland led the Badger defense in tackles last season, putting up 112 (seventy-three solo tackles).

7:28 PM EST - Cornerback Jalen Mills and linebacker Kwon Alexander look to be leaders this season on the much-touted LSU defense.

7:26 PM EST - Wisconsin's scoring by quarters in 2013 goes as follows: 1st-103 points, 2nd-135 points, 3rd-95 points, 4th-120 points.

7:24 PM EST - LSU's scoring by quarters in 2013 goes as follows: 1st-131 points, 2nd-114 points, 3rd-103 points, 4th-117 points.

7:22 PM EST - Wisconsin had more total offensive yards than the Tigers in 2013, posting 6251 yards to LSU's 5893 yards.

7:19 PM EST - Although they lagged on the ground, the Tigers led the way in passing yardage last season, racking up 3263 yards (251.0 average per game), in comparison to Wisconsin's 2562 (197.1 per game). However, most of LSU's yardage was produced by Zach Mettenberger, who the Tigers will have to do without this season.

7:17 PM EST - Melvin Gordon led the way for the Badgers' ground game, with over 1600 yards gained. Terrance Magee is the returning rushing leader for the Tigers, as he was only behind Jeremy Hill's huge season.

7:15 PM EST - Wisconsin recorded 3689 rushing yards last season, while the Tigers posted 2630. The Badgers also averaged more per rush, putting up 6.6 yards to LSU's 5.0 yards.

7:12 PM EST - In 2013, the Tigers outscored their opponents 465-286, while the Badgers outscored their opponents 453-212. LSU averaged 35.8 points per game, and Wisconsin averaged 34.8 points per game.

7:09 PM EST - LSU sophomore QB Anthony Jennings is expected to get the nod to start tonight, but he will face some steep competion for snaps this season in freshman Brandon Harris.

7:08 PM EST - Wisconsin ended last season with two consecutive losses, against Penn State and South Carolina (Capital One Bowl).

7:05 PM EST - LSU is entering this contest riding a three-game win streak dating from last season (with wins against Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Iowa), and Les Miles' Tigers have an opportunity to post a second consecutive win against a Big Ten team, as they closed out 2013 with an Outback Bowl win against Iowa.

7:03 PM EST - Both squads are ranked in the nation's top fifteen, as Wisconsin holds the #14 position, and LSU clocks in a tick ahead at #13.

7:01 PM EST - The Badgers ended 2013 with a second-place finish in the Big Ten Leaders' Division, only behind Ohio State.

6:58 PM EST - The Tigers finished in third place in the SEC West, behind Auburn and Alabama.

6:47 PM EST - LSU is 2-0 all-time versus the Badgers, notching their triumphs in 1971 (38-28, at Wisconsin) and the following year (27-7, at LSU). Under Les Miles' tenure at LSU, the teams have not yet met on the gridiron.

6:20 PM EST - The Badgers, on the other hand, returned only eleven starters, with four of those on the offensive line.

6:14 PM EST - The Tigers returned fourteen starters this season, including five offensive players, seven defensive players, and two specialists.

6:09 PM EST - Wisconsin finished 2013 with a 9-4 (6-2 Big Ten) record, with losses against Arizona State (32-30), Ohio State (31-24), Penn State (31-24), and a 34-24 loss to South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl.

6:07 PM EST - In 2013, LSU finished the season 10-3 (5-3 SEC). The losses came against Georgia (44-41), Ole Miss (27-24), and Alabama (38-17). The Tigers notched a 21-14 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl.

6:03 PM EST - The season opener for both squads, this matchup, set to be played in Houston's NRG Stadium, will kick off at 9:00 PM EST.

6:00 PM EST - Welcome to LIVE coverage of the Wisconsin Badgers vs. LSU Tigers.
