Another week, another contender (or two) goes down.

Last weekend it was perennial B1G powerhouse Ohio State. This week Georgia and USC bit the bullet.

If we've learned nothing else this season, it is that these way too early rankings will be anything but static.

Here is Jerry Steinberg's top 4 after just three weeks of action (in order of seeding):

1) Oregon - The Ducks cruised to a 48-14 win over Wyoming, despite trailing 7-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter. But once they got the seal off of the end zone, they would score on six consecutive drives to put this one away. Mark Helfrich's squad still owns the most impressive win of the season to date, last weekend's season defining triumph over Michigan State.  Does this team have a weakness?  Well it isn't Marcus Mariotta and the offense, who put up another 556 yards this weekend.  But the D surrendered 439 of their own, something they will have to tighten up before facing stiffer challenges like Stanford and UCLA later this season.  Or they could just outscore everyone and remain undefeated.  Time will tell, but the Ducks are looking awfully mighty right now.

2) Florida State - FSU had the weekend off, after two somewhat sluggish wins to start the season. Honestly we have to wonder of the defending champs were bored with Oklahoma State and The Citadel.   Well this weekend should wake the Noles up, as they get a visit from #22 Clemson. Jameis Winston and Co. really took off as National Contenders last season after they thumped the Tigers.  Maybe the site of their stiffest challengers in the ACC Atlantic will spark FSU to put together a complete performance?

3) Alabama - The SEC has an unprecedented 7 teams in the top 15 of the latest AP Poll, but Alabama still looks like the best of the bunch. A 52-12 cakewalk over Southern Miss (the game was actually close for a quarter believe it or not) did nothing to diminish the Tide's standing. Blake Sims continues to get the bulk of snaps at QB, but we expect Jacob Coker to surpass him at some point. The Tide host a very tough Florida Gators squad this weekend. It will be interesting to see how quick a hook Nick Saban has for either man, should they have a few bad series against the UF.

4) Oklahoma - Georgia's loss to South Carolina opens a spot up for the Sooners. But hey let's be honest, Bob Stoops' squad has been knocking on the door all season. They dominated a young Tennessee team 34-10 over the weekend, and Trevor Knight has carried over his big time performance from the Sugar Bowl win over Bama, to 2014.  Look out for the Sooners.  How do they measure up to the Tide this season?  Well next weekend they face a West Virginia team that gave Nick Saban's team all they could handle week 1.  Interesting measuring stick.

Stay tuned for next week's edition, where there promises to be plenty of changes and new developments.
