Buffalo Bills’ linebacker and 2013 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Kiko Alonso has suffered a knee injury that may sideline him for a while.

“We do not have any details at this point, but early indications are that it may be significant,” Bills’ General Manager Doug Whaley said in a statement that was released on Tuesday evening. The injury reportedly happened while Alonso was working out at his alma-mater, the University of Oregon.

Alonso totaled 159 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in his rookie season. He not only started all 16 games for the Bills, Alonso played every single defensive snap of the season.

Not only is Alonso one of the most talented young defensive players in the game, he is the emotional leader of the Bills’ defense. If this knee injury is indeed significant it will obviously be a huge blow to the Bills’ chances in 2014.
