Are the NFL and It's Players "Out of Control"?

Every sport has their share of bad eggs, but just how "out of control" are NFL players?

Quite simply put, yes.

Now, it's a bit unfair to say that all NFL players are "animals". They aren't. A few bad eggs should not determine how people perceive the league and it's players. The problem, though, is that it isn't just a "few" players.

According to USA Today, there have been 732 arrests since the year 2000 in the NFL. Eight of them have come since mid-August alone.

To put that in better perspective, that is roughly one arrest every seven days. That is an absolute outrage. What is even worse though, is the nature of these arrests - domestic violence, child abuse, assault - just to name a few.

Some will argue, "well, it happens in every sport". Yes, this is true. Criminals come in all different sizes and colors. But facts are facts. Numbers don't lie.

In a recent study by Voactiv, it was found that the NFL and NBA lead arrest rates in pro sports, with the MLB and NHL having the lowest number totals.

To be fair, Voactiv only traced arrest rates dating back to 2010, and not 2000 like USA Today's report. Still, the numbers are staggering. Any way you slice it, criminal activity in major sports - especially the NFL and NBA - is becoming a big problem.

It is painfully obvious that the NFL has a huge problem, and continues to ignore it. The NFL has been caught sweeping things under the rug and yet there is still no public outrage. Roger Goodell remains commissioner despite the Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson situations.

Sadly, this is a continuing trend that doesn't seem to have an ending. Americans simply love football too much to boycott it, and most of the NFL's sponsors do nothing to help the situation. It's important to say "most" because there are a few that seem to care. At least to some degree.

Quite simply, there is too much money to be made for anything drastic to happen. People will continue to turn a blind eye to the atrocities that NFL players and personnel commit, simply because they "need their football". This is precisely what the NFL banks on.

Unfortunately, until sponsors and owners take a stand, nothing will change.

Human beings ought to be more upset and outraged over these recent events and numbers. Seriously, what is more important? Football Sundays, or being a decent human being?
