The New York Giants, in desperate need for help in the secondary, brought back an old friend to help do just that.

Safety Stevie Brown left the Giants to join the Houston Texans in the offseason, but after being cut this past weekend, Brown returned to his old home.

When he was asked about the release, he had this to say, "We parted ways on good terms as well. As for the release, it just wasn't playing into the strengths that I have as a safety," he said. "So there was no point in being around there. They were OK with it. They didn't want to keep me there and hinder me. So I definitely appreciate them for doing that and letting me go."

The cutting of Brown is probably more appreciated by the Giants. The signing comes at the perfect time as they have lost four safeties in the last two weeks.

Brown was well aware of what was happening with the Giants."Seems like a position of need, So it's a good fit." When asked about how his previous tenure ended he had this to say, "No hard feelings toward here or anything like that, as you can tell, I'm back now."

The Giants offered Brown a veterans minimum contract this offseason as he was recovering from Lisfranc surgery. But he elected to sign elsewhere.

Brown, 28, spent the previous three years with the Giants before leaving them for a very brief period of time. The sixth-year veteran had his best season back in 2012 when he led the Giants with eight interceptions as well as 76 tackles. Despite all of his early success, Brown's season was cut short in 2013 due to a torn ACL. Coming back from that injury last year, Brown was again injured. This time the injury was to his foot. He ended the 2014 season with no interceptions and just 38 tackles.

This season, Brown will likely take on a leadership role as the team lost Antrelle Rolle to free agency and Jason Pierre-Paul is still recovering from his July 4th fireworks accident. Brown will likely start at safety this year alongside rookie Landon Collins.

While the Giants defense will likely struggle this year, the addition of Brown should help the Giants defense be less vulnerable to big passing plays.
