Forward Charlie Coyle and the Minnesota Wild have come to terms on a contract extension that will keep the 22-year-old with the Wild for next five seasons for $16 million.

In a release by the team, Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said "We’re very excited to get Charlie Coyle signed through the 2019-20 season," before going on to state "Charlie’s size, overall skill set, and character give him a chance to emerge as a top power forward in the game and we’re happy he will be doing that in the State of Hockey for years to come."

Coyle's extension will kick in next season with a cap hit of $3.2 million, which is a sizeable number for the Wild who already had over $34 million locked up in contracts for next season.

The forward has collected a goal and assist so far this season for two points as well a plus-3 rating through four games with Minnesota. Last season, Coyle put up 30 points in 70 games on 12 goals and 18 assists.

Coyle's biggest claim to fame last season was playing during the Wilds' playoff run with two seperated shoulders.
