It was a late night by the time the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks finished their opening game of the opening series. But after a shocking last minute goal by Kris Russell, the Flames were getting ready for game two after a stunning upset in the first game.

Jonas Hiller of the Flames and Eddie Lack of the Canucks were both on top of their game for the majority of the game, but they also managed to keep the game scoreless during the first period. Vancouver had 13 shots on goal and then Calgary had 10, and things were certainly going to have to change as someone had to get on the board in this contest.

12 minutes into the second period, Vancouver got on the board first. Bo Horvat was able to get one by Hiller to get the first goal of the series. It was assisted by Jannik Hansen and Alexander Edler. Vancouver didn't get very many shots that period though, as it was one of 4 shots on goal. The Flames certainly seemed like they were being more aggressive and simply just hadn't gotten anything by Lack as the second period ended with them trailing 1-0.

Just before the start of the 8th minute of the third period David Jones tied things up for the Flames on a goal assisted by Michael Ferland. This certainly made things tighter and it looked like it would be the second game of the night to head to overtime. But then, Kris Russell was able to get another one past Eddie Lack and was assisted by both Dennis Wideman and Sam Bennett.

The Flames and Canucks will play game 2 of the series on Friday Night, April 17.
