Derrick Walker, President of Competition & Operations of INDYCAR, has decided to leave the company effective August 31, 2015, in order to pursue other professional opportunities, as announced by CEO of Hulman & Company which oversees the Verizon IndyCar Series, Mark Miles.

During his time as president of INDYCAR, the sanctioning body of the Verizon IndyCar Series, Walker has made several very noteworthy contributions. Most recently, he was a major part of securing a new event in Boston for the upcoming 2016 season. Also during his tenure overseeing INDYCAR, he created a road course event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis), and he played an important part in the recent technological additions to the series, including those in Race Control and innovations including the new aero kits. With a strong focus on continuous safety advancement, Walker made the cars more stable and safe with changes to the Indy car underwing and strengthening of the sidepods.

"We have benefited from Derrick's extensive racing experience, his tireless effort and his passion for INDYCAR, and he will be missed," said Miles. "We appreciate the thoughtful way Derrick has planned his transition and wish him well in his future endeavors."

A search for his replacement is underway already after his sudden resignation.

"I have appreciated the opportunity to work closely with the team owners, drivers and the team at INDYCAR," Walker commented. "After two and a half racing seasons, I believe the timing is right to move on to other opportunities."

Walker will remain as president through the three remaining races this year: Mid-Ohio, Pocono, and the finale at Sonoma on August 31.
