Before the match, many of the 22,000 in attendance were delighted by the annual International Air Force Show that took place in the skies above the Canadian National Exhibition. For the majority of the crowd this was about the only thing enjoyable about an evening in which Toronto FC put on one of the most dismal performances at home this season.

Within two minutes, it felt like the air show had become an actual invasion when New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen pounced on a TFC turnover, slipped by a racing Collen Warner and placed a perfect shot past the surprised keeper Joe Bendik. The TFC defense just seemed to freeze as Nguyen found the space, and in what seems to be a pattern of late could only look at each other in amazement on what had transpired.

Without the injured Steven Caldwell anchoring the defense, the backline seemed lost on who to mark, and communication continued to suffer when veteran defender Bradley Orr turned over the ball outside the box, in which Kelyn Rowe shot an absolute rocket from 30 yards that fooled Joe Bendik. Bendik became infuriated with his defense, as miscommunication at the backline has cost TFC plenty this year.

Toronto FC's Warner and Gilberto barely missed on some decent scoring chances but as the game progressed the Reds players began losing focus and it often led to players getting frustrated and making uncharacteristic mistakes.

At the conclusion of the half the crowd booed in unison, frustrated by the lack of cohesiveness of this TFC team that showed so much promise at the beginning of the season.

In the second half, things went from bad to worse as the referees got in the way of a Michael Bradley pass that ended up being called by Coach Ryan Nelson," a lovely interception by the referee" led to a counter-attack with Rowe finding a speedy Charlie Davies who passed to a wide open Teal Bunbury tapping the ball into the empty net to seal the victory.

Coach Ryan Nelson who was a stellar defender in his playing career, this night was especially frustrating, as he watched simple miscues cost his team dearly. Nelson has also been infuriated by internal issues as the TFC GM Tim Bezbatchenko stated in this morning’s' news that "we need to win", and "that the time for gelling is over". Nelson responded by stating that "I've played in a World Cup" and added "One thing I know. This was not a pressure game. Are you guys kidding me? Ten games left in a season. Long way to go." Truly this was a statement directed at the GM whose playing experience consisted of college soccer, and playing in the USL 2nd Division.

Nelson knows that despite his differences with the GM, he will need his defense to adjust quickly without the dependable Justin Morrow and Steven Caldwell as TFC play on Wednesday, and Saturday in back-to-back matches against the Philadelphia Union. More dropped points could easily take TFC out of playoff contention.

The only encouragement was that his team played to the end with sub Dwayne De Rosario giving some much needed spark in the final moments, but TFC still could not find a goal, other than when keeper Bobby Shuttleworth dropped a dead ball that seemed to land in the net but of course did not count.

As Revs' Coach Jay Heaps 2nd half surge continues, he leaves Toronto very pleased with the efforts of his team. Unnoticed by the majority in attendance was the 65th minute entrance of one of the most anticipated signings of the year, Jermaine Jones. The United States Men’s National Team central midfielder passed the ball back and forth with teammates and with a win in the bag, played tactical ball while observing the league where he is sure to make an outstanding impact.

The Revs know they will need to bring all the experience and energy from this match when they face off at home against Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.
