The two biggest markets in Major League Soccer will do battle with each other on Sunday night. The Los Angeles Galaxy host the New York Red Bulls are going to go head-to-head in Carson.

Current form

Los Angeles has seen better form throughout these summer months and that has increased their standing in the conference. Currently, the Galaxy are sitting in third in the league, four points behind the Colorado Rapids. One thing they have going for them is the fact FC Dallas has played three more matches than LA has. This will only help Bruce Arena and his squad should their form carry on from here.

For the first time in several weeks, the Los Angeles Galaxy failed to pick up the full three points in a match. In fact, Seattle looked the better of the two teams for most the afternoon. The Sounders opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Cristian Roldan beat Brian Rowe. But then, late in the second half, Sebastian Lletget spoiled Seattle’s day by finding the back of the net.

New York is slowly, but surely climbing up the Eastern Conference standings. At the moment, they are sitting in fourth in the east, four points outside of the wildcard bye. They have not been beating the sides that they need to and that hurts. New York drew the Chicago Fire in their last league match after taking the initial lead. Those are two dropped points that could have really helped them overall and put them in a better position to succeed.

The New York Red Bulls are in the midst of a hectic schedule with the CONCACAF Champions League has gotten underway. New York hosted Antigua CFC on Wednesday night and stormed away with a 3-0 victory. They went up 1-0 in the 12th minute via a score from the penalty spot. Two more goals in the second half helped

Head-to-head

These two sides do not get to play a whole lot. In fact, because they play in separate conferences, New York and Los Angeles play but once a season. With the clubs getting to see each other minimally, they alternate who gets to host the match.

Therefore, its been two years since the Red Bulls played in Southern California. The last time that the teams played each other, the Galaxy demolished NYRB, winning 4-0. Two of the game's goal scorers are still as the current captain Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes contributed to the goal tally that day.
