With Liverpool currently seventh in the Premier League table and eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds desperately need a win at Leicester City on Tuesday night to keep the pressure up on the teams above.

Leicester are currently in the midst of a title challenge, which is one of the stories of the year considering their relegation battle last season, and they sit three points clear at the top going into this one.

The last time two sides met was on Boxing Day, which saw Jürgen Klopp's side take all three points in a hard-fought victory with just the one goal courtesy of Christian Benteke

Current form

The Foxes are curently experiencing a sticky patch with their season set to be disrupted thanks to a dip in form which has seen them win just twice in their past six Premier League fixtures. A 3-0 thrashing of Stoke City in their last game will stand as a huge motivational boost but the previous fixtures offer little in terms of psychological postivity.

The Redmen are doing slightly better as Klopp is beginning to settle into his new Anfield home. With three wins out of their last six matches the Reds are faring better than their opponents, but with their last fixture a thrilling 5-4 victory over Norwich City, the German will be wary about his leaky defence and will look to shore it up upon his visit to the King Power Stadium

Defence-wise, Claudio Ranieri's side are performing to an exceptional standard as they have taken four clean sheets in their last five matches, which serves major recognition in a side that has spent relatively less than £10 million on defensive reinforcements in their Premier League stay.

Liverpool however, should be taking note of their opponent's work, as their defence has been a shambles as of late - conceding nine goals in their last four fixtures including four at a relegation-battling Norwich side. Despite their injury crisis, they should be able to cope, as they have splashed out more than £42 million on defensive cover over the past two seasons.

For the away side centre-back Dejan Lovren may return to the side after playing the full 90 minutes in his side's FA Cup draw against West Ham on Saturday. Klopp is however likely to make wholesale changes to the side he featured in the FA Cup but will look to keep Lovren and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, as well as right-back Nathaniel Clyne

Many of the senior players failed to impress Klopp which will have a major effect come the end of the season as a mass clearout is planned - Christian Benteke and Jordon Ibe both failed to deliver in the goalless draw and will most likely be dropped.

Liverpool will still be without several key players, including Phillipe Coutinho, who is still more than a week away from his return while Martin Skrtel, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are also unlikely to feature. Clyne is in contention however after the right-back missed the recent Stoke City tie in the League Cup through a slight knock.

Jon Flanagan may get a well deserved run out after impressing against the Potters in his first start in over two years after an injury nightmare. The 23-year-old managed 105 minutes before being replaced as Klopp and co. were full of praise for the Merseyside born defender.

Roberto Firmino is expected to be entrusted with the task of leading the forward line for the reds once more, with Sturridge injured and Benteke out of form, the Brazilian will take up his false nine role. The 24-year-old has scored four goals in his past three league matches as the former Hoffenheim player will hope to extend that run while his hot-streak continues.

As for the Foxes they have managed to keep injury-free almost every single player this season with just one ruled out of the clash through injury with Jeff Schlupp is currently nursing a hamstring problem.

Jamie Vardy is in red hot form and is set to be unleashed on the dodgy Liverpool finish with the striker looking to add to the 16 goals that he has already amassed this season.

Riyad Mahrez also poses a significant threat as the skilful attacker has been causing Premier League sides plenty of problems since signing for the Foxes two years ago, but he has truly shown his talents this season. The two forwards will be the biggest threat for the league leaders with both of them scoring in their last league match.

The defence of Ranieri's side is equally as vital to the heart of the team, with Kasper Schmeichel keeping seven clean sheets in his last 13 games. Robert Huth and captain Wes Morgan have been stalwarts with emphatic performances that have even denied free scoing Manchester City in recent games.

Match facts

This fixture always represents a key stage in the league. Back in January 2015 matchweek 23, the Foxes sat dead bottom of the Premier League with just 17 points as they stared relegation in the face. Liverpool's fortunes have not changed as the Reds were sat in seventh place in a woeful season that saw them finish second just the season before.

Overall, Liverpool have won 39 matches to the East Midland outfit's 33 wins. Liverpool have scored more than their opponents on Tuesday night, with 153 goals to Leicester's 125 in these meetings.

The Reds have only lost once on a Tuesday night against their opponents, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat back in 1964 but they have won the previous three Tuesday meetings and have drawn on two other occasions.

The last time the home side scored past Liverpool it was a comeback draw as David Nugent grabbed a goal, as did Schlupp, to cancel out two Steven Gerrard penalties on New Years' Day of 2015.
