Donny van de Beek has completed his Manchester United medical in the Netherlands whilst on international duty, according to Sky Sports.

The Dutch international is set to travel to the UK after facing Poland and Italy in the Nations League.

  • Who is Donny van de Beek?

The 23-year-old will offer Manchester United versatility as he can play in anywhere across the middle. He has also been described as being a classic box-to-box midfielder. With that in mind, the young midfielder could be a perfect fit alongside Paul Pogba.

However, United may have to wait a short while for the partnership after the Frenchman tested positive for coronavirus last week.

Van de Beek was close to joining Real Madrid before the pandemic but nothing was agreed, according to Charlotte Marsh from Sky Sports.

The midfielder gathered interest after his club's exciting run in the Champions League in the 2018/19 season, where Ajax reached the semi-finals.

Van de Beek has made 159 appearances for Ajax, scoring 40 goals and collecting 34 assists. The midfielder makes late runs into the box, catching out defenders and is described as being an offensive central midfielder. If required he will sit deep and defend which will suit Solskjær perfectly.

With van de Beek’s versatility, the midfielder won't need substituting off when a change in United's style of play is needed.

  • His role at United

Van de Beek will most likely be a regular in the starting eleven for United.

It won't take the Dutchman long to settle into the Premier League, having already showcased his talent when facing Chelsea and Tottenham in the past.

Compared to United's current midfield (Bruno Fernandes, Pogba and Fred), van de Beek's stats in the 2019/20 season are more impressive, with ten goals and 11 assists.

Fernandes is the closest to those stats with eight goals and seven assists so there is little doubt that van de Beek will offer solid competition for the current midfielders at the club.

The United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to speak about van de Beek but the announcement of the signing is expected to be soon.
