Leeds United produced an opening-day comeback as the Whites rallied for a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

Having won just three times at home all of last season, it looked to be more of the same as Daniel Podence volleyed home on six minutes.

The hosts fought back and were level through Rodrigo, who finished at the near post with just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half.

Despite dominating the second half, the visitors were undone as Rayan Ait-Nouri scored into his own net to hand Leeds all three points.

The victory marked the first time the Whites have won consecutive games against Wolves since the 2016-17 season. It's also the first time since 2002/03 Leeds have won a Premier League opener.

Story of the match

Jesse Marsch handed full debuts to Brenden AaronsonTyler Adams and Rasmus Kristensen.

Podence was putting the Leeds defense on alert within the opening two minutes, having a sight of goal and with his next opportunity, he put Wolves in front.

Ruben Neves floated the ball over the top of the Whites' defense found the feet of Pedro Neto, who crossed for Hee-Chan Hwang. The Korean headed first-time into the path of Podence, whose mis-hit into the ground beat Ilian Meslier.

Aaronson nearly equalized, his shot from the edge of the box deflected wide off a Wolves shirt.

On the quarter-hour mark, the hosts appealed for a penalty. Goalkeeper Jose Sa missed a catch from a long free-kick and he appeared to foul Kristensenbut nothing was given.

A series of mistakes led to Leeds' equalizer. Ait-Nouri lost possession as he tried to turn in his own area, Neves’ clearance was blocked before Rodrigo fired home from an acute angle.

Hwang, Neto and Podence had chances to put the visitors in front, but they failed to convert. At the other end, Sa nearly turned the ball into his own net when he dribbled over his own goal line.

On the stroke of halftime, Meslier was called into action as a Podence flick found Leander Dendoncker inside the penalty area, but the Whites goalkeeper was on hand to deny the Belgian.

Half time: Leeds United 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Bruno Lage's men continued to pile on the pressure, as Neves let one go from outside the penalty area, but it went well over the crossbar.

From a corner-kick, Dendoncker had the visitors' next opportunity, but his header was just over the crossbar.

Meslier then had to save from Morgan Gibbs-White while Ait-Nouri was denied a certain goal by a fine sliding tackle from Rasmussen.

On 74 minutes, Leeds went in front as Adams picked out substitute Mateusz Klichwho turned and fed Patrick Bamford.

The striker looked to pick out Aaronson, but Ait-Nouri made contact with the ball, accidentally prodding past Sa and into his own net.

The lead should have been doubled, but Sa did brilliantly to deny Bamford's header from point-blank range.

Aaronson and Bamford came off with ten minutes left with both players receiving standing ovations from the Leeds faithful.

Man of the match: Brenden Aaronson

He couldn't have asked for a better debut in West Yorkshire. He pressured the Wolves defense throughout the game, helped to win the ball back for the opener and picked out the perfect run that led to the match-winner.

His relentless work off the ball was also on full display.
