Crystal Palace host London rivals Brentford in the Premier League on Tuesday night, in the first midweek round of fixtures of the season, as both sides look to pick up their second wins of the season respectively.

As the first month of the campaign nears its end, form can begin to be analysed in more long-term detail, rather than the usual fluctuations in results for every team between individual matches early on.

With this year being one of the strangest in English top flight history due to the World Cup taking place midway through, fixture congestion is set to be more rife than ever, something which really gets going from this game forwards.

Patrick Vieira's side have had a mixed start this term, albeit against some extremely tough opposition, losing out to both Arsenal and Manchester City, while picking up a point against Liverpool and beating Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, their west London opponents have enjoyed the highs of a 4-0 demolition of Manchester United, but also experienced the lows of a last minute winner against them when playing Marco Silva's Fulham.

Team News

Crystal Palace

During his pre-match press conference on Monday, Patrick Vieira remained relatively tight-lipped about his side's injury news, with two names in particular being asked about by the media.

Vieira simply said, "we have to wait and see tomorrow [Tuesday] on [Wilfried] Zaha and [Tyrick] Mitchell," which will not be the most comforting news for Palace fans.

The former had to miss the Eagles' trip to Manchester City at the weekend, while the latter came off in the same game with an injury, but it appears their fitness will go down to the wire this week.

Brentford

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw with Everton, Thomas Frank gave a brief update on the squad availability ahead of this one, with club captain Pontus Jansson at the forefront of the boss' mind.

"He [Jansson] had a minor foot injury," explained the head coach. "Unfortunately, he couldn't make it today [against Everton]. We hope that he's available for Tuesday. If I had to guess now, I'd say yes, he'll be back, but let's see."

In terms of other team news, Ethan Pinnock also remains out with a longer-term knee injury, while both Sergi Canos and Kristoffer Ajer could be close to a return based on Frank's previous comments.

Likely Lineups

Crystal Palace

Key Players

Crystal Palace - Wilfried Zaha

As he so often has been for his club in the numerous years he has been at the south London club, it is Wilfried Zaha that is crucial to almost everything that is positive about Palace in attacking areas.

After just four games in the league this season, the winger has scored three goals already, including a brace against Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa, which proved pivotal in his side picking up their first win of the campaign.

He does also have plenty of talent around him up front - the likes of Eberechi Eze have been performing well so far too - but it is the 29-year-old that stands out beyond all his teammates, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he got on the scoresheet again in this one.

Brentford - Ivan Toney

As for the Bees, it's another goalscoring forward that is the player to look out for from their squad, coming in the form of 26-year-old Ivan Toney, who has been with Brentford for almost exactly two years to the day.

The striker has also got two goals during this campaign, one in their opening day draw with Leicester City and another in the previously mentioned 3-2 defeat to Fulham, but it's not just goals that he brings either.

He has also managed three assists in all competitions so far too, two of which came in the same game - the 4-0 victory over Man United a little over three weeks ago - as well as another in the Carabao Cup recently as well.
