Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will make the short trip across Stanley Park to face their local rivals Everton this weekend.

Neither of the Merseyside powerhouses have had convincing starts in this year’s Premier League campaign.

Fabio Carvalho’s last gasp winner against Newcastle United on Wednesday secured back-to-back wins for the Reds following a slow start with two draws and a defeat to Manchester United.

As for Everton, the Toffees have endured a winless start with two losses and three draws.

Any optimism of a revival to Liverpool’s free flowing football following a record equalling 9-0 win over Bourenmouth last weekend were put to the sword as debutant Alexander Isak netted the opener at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool looked short of ideas once more, but one thing that will never leave is Liverpool’s desire to never give up.

The labelled ‘Menality Monsters’ clawed back to victory courtesy of strikes from Roberto Firmino and Carvalho.

Team News

Liverpool

The Reds have been dealt another blow to their midfield as Captain Jordan Henderson has been sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury.

This news was Liverpool’s trigger to delve into the transfer market on deadline day to seal the loan move of Arthur Melo from Juventus.

The Brazilian is in contention to feature at Goodison Park subject to international clearance.

Darwin Nunez also returns to the fold as he has served his three-game suspension for headbutting Joachim Andersen three weeks ago.

Everton

The Toffees also have their fair share of injuries. Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend are all still absent.

Frank Lampard has had his ranks bolstered with a couple of deadline day signings.

Highly rated youngster James Garner has joined on a season long loan from Manchester United alongside a return to Merseyside for Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris St Germain.

Paperwork denied Neil Maupay from being eligible to feature against Leeds in midweek, but the Frenchman has now been given the green light to play a part on Saturday,

Key Players

Liverpool – Luis Diaz

Diaz has picked up where he left off from last season as he continues to take the Premier League by storm.

The Colombian has been a constant threat and the catalyst in a fairly lacklustre Liverpool side at the beginning of this season.

You are never having an easy day at the office if you’re up against the winger in full flow, and with him set to be given his first start in a Merseyside Derby, expect nothing less.

EvertonAnthony Gordon

The local lad who caught the eye of many last season seemed like a big money move to Chelsea was on the horizon this summer.

With Everton refusing to let Gordon go for the prices Chelsea offered, the forward’s performances have justified why he is so valuable to the Toffees.

A shining light in a dull Everton side thus far, Gordon has scored in his last two games and will be hoping to net once more in the hope Everton can get a result against the Reds.
