Everton are hoping to avoid their joint-worst start to a Premier League season after losing their first two games to Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The Toffees haven't lost three consecutive opening games since the 1990/91 season, but they're struggling with a lack of firepower up front and are on track for a difficult start.

Though Frank Lampard's side haven’t looked bad in their first two games, their only goal has come from an own goal by Luca Digne.

Everton, though, have looked dangerous on the attack at times, with four shots on target in both opening games.

Goodison Park has recently been a difficult venue for Premier League clubs to visit, and Nottingham Forest will be under no illusions that it will be any different for them.

Forest have had a slightly better start to the season than Everton, winning 1-0 at the City Ground last time out.

Steve Cooper's team have also done well on the road recently, losing only three of their last twelve games.

Forest did, however, lose their last away game against Newcastle United and will need to produce a much better performance than they did during that game to take anything from this match.

Since beating West Ham, Forest have added Emmanuel Dennis, Remo Freuler, Morgan Gibbs-White and Cheikhou Kouyate to their squad, all of whom will hope to make their debut this weekend.

Everton did push hard to hijack Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White deal and matched the £25m fee paid by Forest. However, Gibbs-White wanted to play for Steve Cooper again and the deal was too far down the line.

Team news

Everton

Frank Lampard is dealing with an injury list that appears to be growing by the day.

Andre Gomes, Andros Townsend, and Calvert-Lewin are all expected to be out with injuries, as they were against Aston Villa

Tom Davies returned from injury, but at the expense of Abdoulaye Doucoure, who injured his hamstring against Villa in the first half.

“Doucoure has a hamstring injury that we will assess in the next few days”, Frank Lampard told his media team after the loss to Villa. “It wasn’t a sudden ping, it was more of a tightness – so we will see.”

Lampard has since confirmed that Doucoure will be out for around three weeks.

Both Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey will miss the game against Nottingham Forest due to injury, with the latter suffering a potential broken ankle against Chelsea, which will keep him out until around Christmas.

Nottingham Forest

Forest will be concerned about Moussa Niakhaté's potential injury after the defender hobbled off in the second half against West Ham

Last time out, the Frenchman had some big moments for Forest, and no other Premier League player won more aerial duels (7) than Moussa Niakhaté during game week two.

If Niakhaté is unavailable, Steve Cook will most likely be inserted into the starting lineup, joining Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna in the back three.

Aside from that, no new injuries have been reported. Ryan Yates is back in training, while Omar Richards is out indefinitely with a hairline fracture.

Emmanuel Dennis, Morgan Gibbs-White, Remo Freuler and Cheikhou Kouyate will be hopeful of making their Forest debuts, but if they do, it will likely come from the bench.

Likely line-ups

Everton

Pickford; Holgate, Coady, Tarkowski; Patterson, Onana, Iwobi, Mykolenko; McNeil, Gordon, Gray

Nottingham Forest

Henderson; Worrall, Cook, McKenna, Williams, O’Brien, Mangala, Toffolo, Lingard, Johnson, Awoniyi

Key players

Anthony Gordon

The 21-year-old has emerged as a Premier League riding star, and despite being linked with a £45 million move to Chelsea, he is expected to play for Everton on Saturday.

Gordon scored four goals and assisted twice as a winger last season, but with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out and Everton short on forwards, he has started the last two games as a striker.

Everton's forward has had two shots per game so far and will be hoping to convert them against Forest.

Jesse Lingard

Lingard has one goal and one assist in his last eight league appearances against the Toffees, with only one defeat.

The 29-year-old registered his first Nottingham Forest assist against West Ham last week and is currently averaging 1.5 key passes per game, more than any other Forest player.

Following his assist last time out, the Forest midfielder will be looking to get his season started with a goal at Goodison Park.
