West Bromwich Albion scored an added-time equaliser to snatch a draw against promotion rivals Burnley at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies went behind midway through the first half, as former Albion man Jay Rodriguez dispatched a penalty after David Button brought down Nathan Tella in the box.

However, debutant Brandon Thomas-Asante became the hero for Steve Bruce's side, snatching a draw with a goal in his first appearance for the club.

Here are four things we learned from Friday night's clash.

  • Albion come from behind again

Bruce's side have conceded the first goal in six out of their eight EFL Championship games so far.

This has given them a steep hill to climb in each of these fixtures, and an unnecessary one too.

They seem to be working towards solving the problem of scoring goals, the arrival of Thomas-Asante could be a step towards that too.

However, conceding goals early on in games is not helping their cause when they find it difficult to open the floodgates in front of goal.

Errors and the occasional lack of organisation are to blame for their defensive mishaps, this time caught out by a long ball over the top of the defence.

The diagonal run from Tella and the ball forwards from Arijanet Muric meant Albion's structure was disrupted and goalkeeper Button was left caught in two minds as to whether he should come out and claim it.

In order to relieve some pressure in those forwards areas, the Baggies need to cut out the defensive errors early on in games.

  • Burnley show promise

Vincent Kompany's new look Clarets have earned plaudits throughout the campaign so far.

Tactically astute and clever in possession, the former defender has instilled a fresh philosophy at Turf Moor.

And although the boss thinks they were fortunate to be in the lead for so long on Friday, Burnley still prove to be a good bet for promotion.

Tella on the wing was a real handful for the Clarets and has been exactly that since making his loan move from Southampton.

The diagonal run in-behind meant he found himself in acres of space to touch the ball down and take it around the goalkeeper.

His quick combinations with Ian Maatsen down the left were a particular concern for Bruce until their substitutions in the 64th minute.

Although they clung on towards the end with the chances they conceded, Burnley could have doubled their advantage through Darko Churlinov.

The Macedonian went in on goal but narrowly hit the post after a side-footed finish.

Burnley look to be consistent and will feel frustrated at the late goal conceded, however, some would say it was coming.

  • Battling through off-field issues

Albion's deadline day was far from perfect, with them believed to have two deals fallen through due to missing the cut-off point for signings.

Fulham midfielder Josh Onomah and Brighton's Steven Alzate were both set to sign season-long loan deals in order to bolster Bruce's ranks.

Sky Sports reported that the Onomah deal was ready to be completed in good time before the 11 pm deadline, but the necessary documents were not signed in time.

This understandably caused frustration amongst The Hawthorns faithful, with many leading chants against owner Guochuan Lai during Friday's draw.

It will be interesting to see whether both of those moves are reignited in January, but it remains to be seen whether the midfielders would still be keen on the move.

  • A tricky run of fixtures for the Clarets

Kompany's side find themselves in the midst of a difficult lane of games early on in the season.

Next up they host league leaders Norwich City who have won each of their last five in the Championship.

It is sure to provide an intense tactical battle with both teams scoring well of late.

But to not lose against the Baggies after the chances conceded will be  a big boost to the Turf Moor residents.
