Burnley returned to the Championship in style and look to build on their impressive start to the season at home against Luton Town.

The new-look Clarets produced a fine display in the opening game of the campaign at Huddersfield Town, with Ian Maatsen’s first half strike enough to earn all three points.

The Hatters were held to a 0-0 draw with Birmingham City at Kenilworth Road as they look to better last year’s performance which saw them reach the Playoffs.

  • Team News

Burnley are likely to have all of the players available to them from the win at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Dara Costelloe started alongside Ashley Barnes and could keep his place, although Jay Rodriguez should be fit enough to take his spot on the bench after missing the last game with a knock.

Scott Twine is the most likely to come into the starting line-up, having only been fit enough to make a substitute appearance last time out.

The defence should be kept the same after a strong performance, meaning new signings CJ Egan-Riley and Luke McNally will have to wait for their debuts.

Similarly with the midfield, with fellow new signings Josh Cullen and Samuel Bastien impressing alongside Josh Brownhill and Jack Cork last Friday.

Maxwel Cornet will be missing as his looming move to West Ham United gathers momentum, meanwhile Johann Berg Gudmundsson will miss out as he is being managed back gently from his injury issues.

For the visitors, it remains to be seen whether Harry Cornick will be fit enough to come back into the starting 11 after his cameo against The Blues last weekend.

Fellow striker Cauley Woodrow could also push for a start, meaning that Elijah Adebayo or Carlton Morris could find themselves dropping to the bench.

Ethan Horvath should retain his spot in goal for Nathan Jones’ side, ahead of fellow summer arrival Matt Macey.

Allan Campbell will likely start, too having come through the 90 minutes last weekend unscathed, as will Luke Freeman in the centre of midfield.

Newest arrival Aribim Pepple is less likely to make his first appearance for the club, having only joined up with the squad a matter of days ago.

  • Likely line-ups

Burnley

Muric; Roberts, Harwood-Bellis, Taylor, Maatsen; Cork, Cullen, Brownhill, Bastien; Twine, Barnes.

Luton Town

Horvath; Osho, Bradley, Potts; Bree, Campbell, Freeman, Clark, Bell; Cornick, Morris.

  • Key Players

Burnley – Josh Cullen

What a debut this man produced at Huddersfield.

Every time Cullen received the ball, he found the perfect pass, whether that be defence splitting or retaining possession.

Kompany’s man from Anderlecht slotted right into the midfield and allowed Brownhill the opportunity to fly forward and support the attack.

Burnley looked comfortable with the ball with Cullen the ringleader, and then he helped shore up the midfield when Huddersfield looked to counter-attack against an expansive attack.

He will quickly become a fan favourite at Turf Moor, and will benefit hugely from having quicker players ahead of him.

Luton TownHarry Cornick

He was used from the bench on the opening weekend, but Cornick showed what he brings to this Luton side.

They will be hoping he can play a bigger role in this one than he did against Birmingham, as his ability to break down stubborn defences is huge for Luton.

He can break the lines, which will be key against a Burnley side which pushed high against Huddersfield and left a lot of space in behind.

If Cornick can get in round the back and get a shot off, he can punish The Clarets or pick out a pass to a better positioned teammate.
