Fans will be hoping for fireworks on the pitch this Bonfire Night, as Leicester City travel to Merseyside to face an improved Everton side, with the start of the World Cup edging closer.

Fitness concerns have been the topic of debate, with national teams asking their clubs to rest their players ahead of the opening World Cup game, but Leicester and Everton only have a couple of players in contention for a place at the World Cup.

Frank Lampard has seemingly steadied the ship at Goodison Park, with a decent run of results seeing them sit in 12th, but three points for Leicester would see them move above Everton.

Last time out, Everton travelled to the banks of the river Thames to face this season’s surprise package, Fulham. In a tight game, where both teams had the chances to take all three points, the game finished 0-0.

Leicester City come into this game off the back of a narrow defeat to Premier League champions, Manchester City. The Foxes were edged out, thanks to a stunning free kick scored by Kevin De Bruyne, but Brendan Rodgers’ side held their own and perhaps could have snatched a point. Rodgers will be hoping his side can head into the World Cup in-form and lift themselves out of the bottom three.

Team News

Everton

Frank Lampard confirmed that Ben Godfrey is back on the training pitch, as well as Yerry Mina, which will come as a boost to Everton’s defensive ranks.

The Everton boss also noted that Dominic Calvert-Lewin was getting back to full fitness as he recovers from his long-term injury.

Andros Townsend is still out with his ACL injury, which leaves the former Spurs man out of action for a while.

Leicester

Leicester have been without club captain Jonny Evans for the last couple of games, and Rodgers suggested that he may still miss this weekend’s match, with a late fitness test on Friday.

Rodgers also provided an update on the progress of long-term absentee, Ricardo Pereira. The Portuguese right-back is making good progress with his heel injury and is set to return to the squad in January.

Ryan Bertrand remains out and is the only other notable absentee.

Key Players

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The English striker looks set to miss this year’s World Cup but has looked threatening since returning to the Everton side.

His contest with Leicester centre-back Wout Faes may be a key factor in determining the result of the match.
