Spanish football has an identity of controlling the European competitions as they have won more UEFA Champions leagues and Europa Leagues the other leagues combined. With winning 11 Champions Leagues, 11 Europa Leagues and 14 Super cups since the beginning of the of the 21st century.

With Real Madrid being seen as the kings of the Europe with winning a record number of 14 European Cups and Sevilla winning the most Europa leagues with six, while both Barcelona and Real Madrid winning the most Super Cups with five. Especially Los Blancos' Champions League win during the 2021/2022 season was one of the best reasons to never count out the "Kings of Europe" with coming from behind to beat both favourites Paris Saint Germain in the round of 16 and then they saw themselves almost down and out going into the final minutes against Manchester City two goals behind; and in under two minutes Madrid came back and sent the game to extra time, with five minutes into extra time saw them awarded a penalty that saw them get through with a six - five win on aggregate. Even in the final it could have been described as one of the best defensive and goalkeeping displays in a final seen in recent years; which saw Real Madrid win their 14th European cup with a one - nil win against Liverpool.

It isn't just the Champions League that that the Spanish clubs are renowned for its also known for winning the Europa League with taking the trophy back to Spain 11 times since the turn of the 21st century. With Sevilla winning the most times with a total of six and were the first team in Spain to win the a European trophy three times in a row which saw them win the 2014/15/16 Europa league. From the first time in the 21st century when Valencia won the Europa League in 2004 they haven't gone longer than three years without winning the competition. And in both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League the longest they have gone without a either of these trophies is two years and also held both trophies in the country for three years which is more than any other nation has done. Throughout their 11 wins they have beaten a mixture of teams from Middlesbrough and Manchester United to the likes of Inter Milan and now dissolved club from Ukraine Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Did Spain have the best team the world has ever seen?

There is a debate that current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola take and produce the best footballing side the world has seen in the last 20 years when he was in charge of Barcelona from 2008 - 2012. During his spell in charge at the club Barcelona won two Champions Leagues and the 2009 win they beat arguably the best side in England with Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United with a 2-0 win with goals from Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi. This was the start of a footballing side never seen before with during the 2010/2011 season saw them beat Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid and at the end of that season win the league on 96 points and beat Manchester United again in the Champions League final to top off an outstanding season. And in Guardiola's final season saw them win four trophies and even after he left his star man Lionel Messi ended the 2012 calendar year breaking the goalscoring recorder with 91 goals which was previously held by Bayern Munich Legend Gerd Muller with 85 goals.
