Belgium look to clinch their spot in the Round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup when they face Morocco in their Group F clash.

The Red Devils were far from their best, a sentiment shared by the players, but Michy Batshuayi was able to net the only goal of the match to give the 2018 third-place finishers a 1-0 victory over Canada.

A win here would be Belgium's seventh consecutive group-stage triumph as they swept through their opponents in both 2014 and 2018 en route to the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

For their part, Morocco picked up an impressive point against Croatia, holding down a side littered with a number of stars and will fancy their chances against one of the tournament favorites.

The Atlas Lions cannot be eliminated no matter the outcome of this match, but a win would put them in good position to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 1986.

This is the second time Belgium and Morocco have met at the World Cup, the first being in the group stage in 1994, the Red Devils coming out on top 1-0 thanks to a glancing header from Marc Degryse.

Likely line-ups

Belgium: Courtois; Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dendoncker; Carrasco, Witsel, Tielemans, Castagne; De Bruyne, Hazard; Batshuayi

Morocco: Bounou; Attiat-Allah, Aguerd, Saïss, Hakimi; Ounahi, Amrabat; Ziyech, Boufal, Amallah; En-Nesryi

Team news

Belgium

Manager Roberto Martinez is hoping Lukaku will be available in a substitute role for this match as the star striker has been battling a thigh injury since August.

The Red Devils have three players on a yellow card with Yannick Carrasco, Thomas Meunier and Amadou Onana a booking away from a one-match suspension.

Morocco

The Atlas Lions will  be without defender Noussair Mazraoui after he was stretchered off against Croatia with an undisclosed injury.

Sofyan Amrabat will need to be careful as a yellow card in this contest will see him miss out on the final group stage match against Canada.

Key players

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)

The Red Devils boast a number of stars from Eden Hazard to Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois, but the Manchester City midfielder has been the standout performer for a number of years at the biggest tournaments.

Some of his best football has come when playing as a box-to-box midfielder and distributing while joining the attack and linking up with Hazard, Lukaku or Michy Batshuayi.

Teammate Axel Witsel calls De Bruyne "a magician. He sees things that others don't and has been producing performances like this for a number of years now. He's simply outstanding."

A four-time champion at City, the 31-year old is hoping to bring silverware back to Belgium for the first time.

Sofiane Boufal (Morocco)

He's been a key figure for the Atlas Lions since being his debut in 2016 and his three goals at the most recent CAF Africa Cup of Nations cemented his place as a vital member of the side.

His dribbling skills are outstanding and he has a keen eye for goal while also having the flexibility to operate as a center-forward as well as his regular left wing-back position.

Boufal did not play well in Morocco's opening draw against Croatia and will be eager to return to the level he is accustomed to against one of the favorites to lift global soccer's biggest trophy.
