David Ferrer, currently ranked at number 13, in the world is not having the best of seasons in his career. However, the Spanish number two will be representing Spain at the Rio Olympics, which will most likely be his last Olympics as he is aged 34.

Ferrer competed at the London Olympics in the singles and doubles event. Unfortunately, he suffered heartbreaking defeats in the doubles when he paired up with his compatriot Feliciano Lopez losing in the semifinals to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra who went on to leave London with the silver medals.

The semifinal defeat meant that the Spanish duo qualified for the bronze medal match which they lost out to another French duo of Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau.

The "terrier" has revealed that those tough losses at the Olympics four years ago still trouble the Spaniard to this day and he spoke to Spanish newspaper Marca plus about it.

Ferrer on his tough losses

"It was hard, tough. We were so close to winning a medal. It was a very sad moment in our career, the second toughest loss for me. The first one was in Miami, with the match point that I could not convert." Speaking about his final defeat to Andy Murray in Miami three years.

The Spaniard will be a busy man in Rio

The Rio Olympics will be Ferrer's third and he will try once more to leave with a medal as he is competing in all three disciplines, the singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.

Ferrer is grateful for his opportunity on competing in Rio, "That day Feliciano and I thought we would never play the Olympic Games again and instead now, I'm, playing yet another Olympics."

The 34-year-old was a Grand Slam finalist in 2013 losing out to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final in straight sets and he spoke about his compatriot's chances at the Olympics.

Ferrer showcases his jovial side

"Rafa (Nadal) will win the gold medal, I will win silver and (Novak) Djokovic bronze. Among the girls, Carla Suarez Navarro will win gold, Garbine Muguruza will win the silver and bronze will be won by Serena Williams." Ferrer added if he won the gold medal, " If I win, I clip every hair off my head."

Golden opportunity for the Spaniard

Ferrer will have a good chance to leave Rio with a medal, even though he may not win a medal in the singles but in the doubles and mixed doubles event the veteran Spaniard will give his all for his nation and will leave it all out there on the court.
