Peterborough United look to build on their good start to the season against a Morecambe side starting their second consecutive season in League One.

The Posh found life back in the third tier slightly more difficult than they imagined, having to come from behind to beat Cheltenham Town on the opening day.

The visitors to the Weston Homes Stadium this weekend played a slightly less dramatic game to start their campaign, sharing the spoils in a 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury Town.

  • Team News

Grant McCann is forced into making at least one change to the starting 11 that won 3-2 last time out as Sam Szmodics joined Blackburn Rovers earlier this week.

Posh are expected to bring a replacement in, but have not done so just yet meaning McCann is left with few options for the attacking midfield role, with Kwame Poku expected to be out for another week with a calf injury.

Jack Marriott, who started the second half revival last weekend, could partner Jonson Clarke-Harris up front.

Ben Thompson impressed when he entered the fray at half-time against Cheltenham so could partner Jack Taylor in midfield.

Joe Ward is nearing full fitness after completing a week of training, meanwhile on-loan goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright should be fit enough to return the bench.

The Shrimps could hand out a debut to Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Jensen Weir, who was an unused substitute last weekend.

Derek Adams handed out five debuts in his starting line-up last weekend and, unless for any unknown injuries, he could start with the same 11 again.

Farrend Rawson was named man-of-the-match in the goalless draw with The Shrews, and Cole Stockton will look to return to his scoring ways by leading the line.

  • Predicted line-ups

Peterborough United

Bergstrom; Knight, Edwards, Kent; Ward, Thompson, Taylor, Fuchs, Burrows; Marriott, Clarke-Harris

Morecambe

Ripley; Love, Rawson, Delaney, Melbourne; Fané, Weir; Connolly, Hunter, Gnahoua; Stockton.

  • Key players

Peterborough United - Jonson Clarke-Harris

The newly crowned Posh captain has picked up right where he left off the last time he was in League One, scoring twice to complete the turnaround last time out.

He is a much fitter striker now than he ever has been, and is much sharper than he was last season in the Championship.

Clarke-Harris is much more than raw power, his technical ability in and around the area is second to none in this division and he is able to fashion a chance out of nothing for himself.

His movement in the box is deadly, countless times over his Peterborough career has he found himself across the first defender and sliding the ball home.

With a smaller, more agile partner like a Marriott alongside him, Clarke-Harris thrives.

He can flick the ball on or hold it up and get others into play before finding himself in the box to finish the move off.

Morecambe – Cole Stockton

It is the battle of two top-of-the-range strikers in Cambridgeshire this weekend, as Stockton looks to improve on his 26-goal season last time out.

The number nine can find the net in a variety of ways, from stunning long range efforts to scrappy tap ins.

He is more than just goals, though, his ability to keep the ball allows his side to get out of defence and join him in attack.

His natural instinct for scoring goals, though, has meant he has been the focus of much attention this summer from a number of clubs.

If he is looking for that big-money move away, there’s no better stage to audition on than against one of the title favourites.
