Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte noted his side's newly-found fortitude this season following a win against a tough Wolverhampton Wanderer's opposition.

It was a difficult game for the hosts at times, especially in the opening 45 minutes, with Bruno Lage's side appearing to be on top for large portions of the match, as Spurs struggled to get into the game against a resolute Wolves defence.

Yet, after the interval, a seemingly new Tottenham side came out, looking far more potent and energetic in their play, which led to them getting a goal from Harry Kane, who continues to reach new heights every week.

The striker's header proved to be the only goal of the game, but it gives Spurs a huge three points, meaning they stay unbeaten at the start of this campaign, and also go top of the Premier League table, if only for a few hours at least.

On what changed at half time

The contrast between Tottenham's performance in the first 45 minutes and the second could barely have been more stark, with the hosts looking lethargic and lazy prior to the half time interval.

When asked what happened during the break to alter the display so dramatically, Conte gave a simple answer, saying "It is always very important to have a moment between the halves to analyse with the players and the staff, the way to try to improve the situation.

"In the first half we struggled a bit for many reasons, in the physical aspect. We played against a very fast team."

The head coach continued: "Then in the second half I tried to fix some situations. I felt we had a lot of energy to press high and we created the chances to score and we played with an important intensity.

"It was difficult for them to play against us."

On Harry Kane

The standout player for Tottenham this afternoon was undoubtedly that of Harry Kane, who once again proved vital for Conte in helping his side pick up points in a game where they looked subpar for extended periods.

Kane has now scored 250 goals for the club, as well as breaking the record for the most goals scored by one player for a single Premier League club, and it seems likely that the accolades won't stop there.

Conte spoke in glowing terms about the striker after the game, lauding how "Harry [Kane] is for us a player who has to make the difference."

He explained: "We try to exploit him and give him the possibility to score. For me, the big surprise about Harry is not only the football aspect, but especially the person.

"We're talking about a really good man. He's always ready to help the team and work."

On the importance of the result

Fundamentally, this was a big result for Spurs because it proved one very important thing: that they can still win even when they are not playing at their absolute best.

As any self-professed football fan will tell you, that sort of mentality is one which only the very best teams have, so for Tottenham fans the prospect of the upcoming campaign can only be a positive thought currently.

Conte even expressed his delight with the improvement his side have made since he arrived in North London, pointing out how "This type of game last season we weren't prepared to find this type of difficulty. We lost these games.

"We lost at home to Southampton, Chelsea and Wolves and I was really worried when I saw these first three games!

"To get seven points shows this team is improving and we want to continue to improve."
