What does the WWE have planned for Sami Zayn?

The WWE has little plans for the fan favourite, but he's likely to have a run in the tag team division.

Sami Zayn can be viewed as a potential future star for the WWE but as of late, they’ve not made that viewpoint exactly clear.

Zayn is an extremely talented performer who is very likeable with the fans. He is somebody who can reach that Daniel Bryan level of being a top good guy from years gone by.

Zayn really is that good, but the WWE has to find something for him.

Now, according to reports from NoDQ, Zayn may be poised for a run in the tag team division with Neville after the pair were put together as a team on the WWE SummerSlam pre-show on Sunday.

While it’s probably a good thing for the pair to get more TV time and show off their skills, both of them will be looking to do more as a singles performer.

Zayn is coming off a win in a magical match against Kevin Owens at WWE Battleground and more probably should have been planned for him, not just placed into the tag team division.

It’s been said in the past that the WWE view Zayn as somebody who can be their guy in the long-term but they’ve used a similar routine in the past and lost a number of frustrated performers who could have been the WWE’s top stars.

The WWE won’t want to lose Zayn but may have to change their ideas for the Underdog from the Underground.

A lack of direction?

The WWE Brand Split was viewed as beneficial for all of the WWE superstars as everybody would have more time but it seems like the WWE have fallen into a trap of reverting to type, especially with regards to Monday Night Raw.

Monday Night Raw is the flagship show but it hasn’t really changed much at all.

Now, that isn’t to say that Zayn should be straight in the main event picture right now but the crowd reactions he gets and the matches he puts on show that he should be doing a lot more.

Recently, Zayn has been used more to showcase other superstars because he is just that good in the ring.

You only have to look at his time in NXT to see how much the crowd loves him and how much they were behind him in his chase for the championship.

A possible trade?

Something that hasn’t been explored or even considered by the WWE after the WWE Draft was the possibility of trades. Now, in reality, a trade could be seen as a show giving up on a superstar and moving them on but it could be beneficial for a number of superstars, including Zayn.

SmackDown Live is focusing on the in-ring action and giving superstars a chance to take themselves to the next level.

If Zayn becomes available for trade, SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan should look to target him and bring him to his show.
