• Superb Stevan

It was a day to remember for Montenegrin front man Stevan Jovetic as he bagged his first Premier League brace under the lights at the Etihad Stadium. After a cagey first 40 minutes which saw Liverpool create the majority of chances, a failed clearance fell to Jovetic inside the box who smashed it home past Simon Mignolet.  The mistake by Alberto Moreno proved to be costly as Jovetic would go on to net two in the game just under half of the goals he'd accumulate that season (5).

Going in at the break full of confidence it only took him ten minutes to grab his second when he made it 2-0 in the 55th minute. It wasn't the first time Jovetic had found the back of the net against Liverpool either, he scored twice in the Champions League for Fiorentina back in 2009. On came Sergio Aguero in the 68th minute and a minute later doing what he does best made it 3-0 with his first touch of the game.

A relatively quiet second part to the second half ensued although a minor blip in the 83rd minute came, as Pablo Zabaleta bundled the ball into the back of his own net.  With Negredo and Dzeko watching on it was a huge step in the Manchester City career of Stevan Jovetic as his two goals where enough to see City go unbeaten against Liverpool since January 2012.   Mario Balotelli watched on seeing his new side being beaten by his former side, it must've been a sweet feeling for his former teammates.

  • Games since then

Now one of the biggest games in English football Liverpool and Man City have come up numerous times since this game, 15 times in fact. The Blues have won six times with Liverpool picking up eight victories meaning just the one draw since this day has been produced.

The last two title races have definitely been between these two heavyweight giants with Liverpool being victorious in the later. They also came up against each other in two fascinating ties in the Champions League the same season with Liverpool winning both encounters.
