The Hammers come into the game off the back of two straight Premier League defeats against champions Manchester City and newly promoted Nottingham Forest.
They’ve failed to score in both of their opening fixtures, despite having a wealth of chances last time out at the City Ground, including a missed penalty from captain Declan Rice.
The penalty miss was conflated by a goal chalked off by VAR, the woodwork being hit multiple times and some fine saves by Forest ‘keeper Dean Henderson. It left David Moyes frustrated by the lack of a clinical edge from his side.
Moyes’ men did get their Europa Conference League campaign off to a winning start with a 3-1 victory against Danish side Viborg FF this week, and they will no doubt be looking to continue in the same vein against Brighton.
It’s been a fairly active transfer window for West Ham who have brought in striker Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo and Maxwel Cornet from Burnley to bolster their attacking options, and Moyes would have been delighted to see Scamacca scoring his first goal in Claret and Blue in the European fixture.
Brighton, on the other hand, travel to London unbeaten in their opening two games. They followed up on their astonishing 2-1 win against Manchester United with a goalless draw at home to Newcastle United.
The Irons failed to get the better of their opponents on both occasions last term, succumbing to a 3-1 defeat on the final day of the season at the Amex Stadium, after drawing 1-1 in the home fixture in December.

Team news
Craig Dawson is likely to miss out with a quad issue and new signing Nayef Aguerd underwent ankle surgery in pre-season which is likely to sideline him until after the World Cup. Defensive injuries mean a debut for Thilo Kehrer is likely.
Other new arrivals Scamacca and Cornet were handed their first starts in the win against Viborg after making the bench during the opening two Premier League games. First team coach Billy McKinlay spoke before the game that they were being eased into first team action so they may well make their first starts in the league on Sunday.
Graham Potter named an unchanged XI for the opening two games of the season, and a clean injury sheet means the same is likely this weekend.

Key Players
Gianluca Scamacca (West Ham)
The Italian forward signed for £30 million from Sassuolo during the summer following an impressive Serie A campaign in which he netted 16 times in 36 appearances.
Having come off the bench against Man City and Nottingham Forest he was handed his first start in the Europa Conference League where he scored the opening goal to open his account for the Hammers. Now in line for a first start in the league, he could prove to be the goalscoring striker which David Moyes has been crying out for.
Leandro Trossard (Brighton)
Pascal Groß stole the headlines with his brace at Old Trafford in the first game of the season, but Belgian Trossard is more than capable of being the key man at the London Stadium. Going into his fourth season on the south coast, he’ll be looking to get his first goal of the campaign and build on last term where he finished with eight goals.
