The Potters have been underwhelming on home turf this season, with just two wins from nine games at the bet365 Stadium so far.

Last weekend saw Birmingham City come away from North Staffordshire with a 2-1 victory, leaving Stoke with just one win from their last five.

Alex Neil's men sit in 19th place and are in desperate need of a lift in their penultimate game before the winter break.

Luton Town have largely enjoyed their season so far, with the Hatters beating Blackpool 1-0 last time out courtesy of a Luke Berry goal.

The mood around the club was dampened as news broke on Monday of Southampton's interest in boss Nathan Jones - with the Welshman given permission to speak to Saints bosses after this match-up.

They sit in eighth position, just two points off the playoffs.

  • Team news

Harry Souttar could feature for the first time since last November after recovering from a long-term knee injury and taking his place in the matchday squad against Birmingham.

Gavin Kilkenny remains sidelined with a knee injury.

Sonny Bradley remains out with a knee injury picked up recently.

Cauley Woodrow (calf) and Reece Burke (hamstring) remain out alongside long-term absentees Glen Rea and James Shea.

Dan Potts is a doubt after hobbling off early on against Blackpool.

  • Likely lineups

Bursik; Sterling, Wilmot, Souttar, Fox, Tymon; Thompson, Baker, Powell; Brown, Gayle.

Horvath; Bree, Lockyer, Potts; Clark, Berry, Mpanzu, Bell; Campbell, Morris, Adebayo

  • Ones to watch

Nick Powell

Powell is a product of the Crewe Alexandra youth academy and joined Manchester United at just 18 years old, but failed to ever nail down a spot for the Red Devils as a youngster. A fruitful three year spell at Wigan Athletic saw him join the Potters in 2019, where he scored 17 goals in 72 games in his first two seasons.

The dynamic attacking midfielder has had an injury hit 8 months, with just three starts since March and two of those coming in the last week. He netted six goals in 14 starts last campaign. Alex Neil will need him back to his best sooner rather than later as Stoke look to improve on a drab start to the season.

Carlton Morris

Strong striker Morris began his career under Alex Neil at Norwich but made just one appearance for the Canaries in seven seasons as he went on loan to the likes of Rotherham, Shrewsbury and MK Dons before moving permanently to Barnsley in 2020.

He netted 16 in 55 games in South Yorkshire before moving to Luton this summer for an undisclosed fee. He won Championship Player of the Month for September as he netted four goals in four games. So far this season he has scored eight goals and has been the Hatters' star man.
