Five time winners Manchester United made it into the Carabao Cup semi-finals, with a 3-0 win over League One opponents, Charlton Athletic, at Old Trafford.

United started off on the front foot and went ahead through Antony's wonderful curling strike with 21 minutes on the clock.

Charlton put up a spirited performance and pushed for an equaliser, with Scott Fraser going closest in the second half, as he fired a shot over Tom Heaton's crossbar.

Substitute Marcus Rashford added the gloss on an unconvincing Red Devils performance with two late goals to wrap up his side's progress into the semi-finals.

Here are the full player ratings for both teams from tonight's contest, out of 10:

  • Manchester United

Tom Heaton – 7

Assured in the air and with his feet. Rarely had a save to make, but he was reliable when called upon.

Diogo Dalot – 6

Had his side's first big chance as he blazed the ball over from inside the box. Went down innocuously just after the half hour mark and was duly taken off, with United fans no doubt hoping it was only precautionary.

Harry Maguire – 5.5

Won most of his headers and found attackers well with long passes, but struggled with the pace of the Charlton attack at times and was booked for a cynical foul on Sessegnon in the second half.

Lisandro Martinez – 6

Seemed shaky under pressure in his first start since becoming a World Cup winner. Became relatively comfortable as the game progressed, but not his finest game.

Tyrell Malacia – 7

Got forward well and was always involved in the game attacking-wise and defensively. Was taken off corner duty for the second half after sending one straight out of play.

Scott McTominay – 5.5

Played in a more advanced role as United looked to break down their visitors' low block, but struggled to impact the game and link up with his attacking teammates.

Fred – 7.5

Could have had the opener was it not for a great block, after he was picked out unmarked in the box and then was inches away, as his brilliant free kick cannoned off the post. One of his side's brightest performers.

Antony – 7

Had hardly touched the ball before setting himself and curling it home brilliantly with 21 minutes on the clock. Was shut out by a resolute Charlton defence.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Quietly effective in the first half as he dropped deeper to get onto the ball more. Influence waned as time went on, but a promising debut nonetheless for the 17 year old.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7.5

Was a major threat early on as he gave the Charlton defence a torrid time with his pace and trickery. Great chance was well saved just after the hour mark and he was a thorn in Clare’s side all game.

Anthony Elanga – 5.5

Struggled to impact the game playing in an unfamiliar central striker role.

Substitutes

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (for Dalot 34’) - 6.5

Provided decent support for Antony and put in a great ball for Elanga to tap home, but the latter was offside. Found Taylor-Blackett a difficult customer at times, but was solid throughout.

Casemiro (for Fred 60’) - 6.5

Brought on to calm United down and add experience in a pivotal moment, as Charlton grew into the game. His lovely ball laid it on a plate for Rashford to get the third.

Christian Eriksen (for Mainoo 60’) – 6.5

Good cross just after he came on, which could not be headed home by McTominay. Played some brilliant long passes as the game became stretched late on.

Marcus Rashford (for Antony 60’) - 8

Went central after Elanga went off and was much more involved than before. Two smart finishes saw him do exactly what Erik Ten Hag had sent him on to do and wrap the game up for United.

Facundo Pellistri (for Elanga 84’) - 7

His quick feet had Charlton defenders worried and his cameo got even better, as he threaded Rashford through for him to make it 2-0.

  • Charlton Athletic

Ashley Maynard-Brewer – 7

Little to do in general, but did his duty well when called upon. Seemed to carry the ball out of his area at one point with Garnacho closing down, but nothing was given. Brilliant save to deny Eriksen late on and could do little about any of the goals.

Sean Clare – 6

Run ragged early on, but got better as the game passed and put in some crunching tackles throughout. Delivery into the box was poor.

Ryan Inniss – 6.5

Worked hard and put his body on the line to keep his team in it right until the end.

Lucas Ness – 6

Produced two brilliant blocks from Antony in the first half and then Eriksen’s goal bound shot late on. Struggled to progress the ball forward.

Steven Sessegnon – 6

Lost Antony for a moment and he instantly made it 1-0, but produced some good defending other than that as he worked hard to get up and down the pitch.

Albie Morgan – 5.5

Did not have the same on-ball impact as his fellow midfielders, but did his job as protector of the back four before being taken off in favour of an attacking change.

George Dobson – 7

Was snapping at United heels all game and did not allow his opposite numbers a moment's rest. Broke forward on counters well, but his final ball was lacking. Impressive throughout.

Scott Fraser – 6

Struggled with the pace of defensive transitions in the first half, but put a tackle in when his side needed it. Spurned a gilt-edged chance early in the second half as he fired over from just inside the box and improved in a more advanced role.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi – 6.5

Busy customer, but did not trouble Malacia as much as he would have wanted to early on. Grew into it as time passed and was everywhere on the pitch as he made it tougher for his opposite number by looking to take him on and get his side a goal.

Miles Leaburn – 5.5

Offered an aerial outlet that Charlton needed, but lacked the service to put the ball in the net as he failed to produce a shot on goal.

Corey Blackett-Taylor - 6

Got stuck in defensively and was his side's main threat on the counter as he played on the shoulder of the defence and looked to utilise his pace. Quietened as Wan-Bissaka got to grips with him in the second half.

Substitutes

Eoghan O’Connell (for Blackett-Taylor 60’) - 6

Signalled a defensive change that allowed Fraser to move into a more advanced role and then saw Payne take up Blackett’s vacant left wing position. Brought the ball out of defence better than any of his teammates.

Jack Payne (for Albie Morgan 66’) - 5.5

Added some flair to his side as they pushed for an equaliser, but couldn't produce a decisive moment.

Jayden Stockley (for Sessegnon 82’) – 5

Looked to bring more physicality to proceedings, but also lacked service with the starting wide players off the pitch by the time he came on.

Aaron Henry (for Rak-Sakyi 82’) - 5

Ineffective cameo with most of the late play happening in Charlton's half.
