Louis van Gaal speaking to Sky Sports following Manchester United's 1-0 win against Everton said that he was very pleased with the win but thought the performance was poor from his team.

Van Gaal says it was a poor performance from the team

United, not at their best, came away with a very important win at Old Trafford against Everton courtesy of Anthony Martial - who scored the winner ten minutes into the second-half. Van Gaal, being modest, did admit that United had stolen the victory during the game as it wasn't a good performance.

The Dutch coach on the win against Everton said "I think it was more or less a stolen victory" as the team failed to create many chances and "didn't play so well". Van Gaal went on to say that he felt that "we were not fresh enough" which he felt was weird as he said "we had a lot of days to prepare for the match".

Van Gaal happy to get another three points

Van Gaal says that he is "very happy with the victory" as it was key that the team responded to all the other teams who won this weekend but he felt that Everton could have "scored two goals". The main thing though was that the defence stood up strong and kept yet another clean sheet.

The win against Everton now keeps United in touch with Manchester City in fourth place with seven games to go. The important thing now is to keep up the momentum and secure a victory against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend and van Gaal feels having four of the last seven at Old Trafford will help the team achieve their goal. Louis van Gaal on the race for a top-four place said "we are still in the race" and feels that it is important to have "four home matches" out of the seven left as the team very rarely lose at home. The key will be the remaining three away games that still needs to be played.

Van Gaal says it's important to win next week against Tottenham

Van Gaal says that it is a "very important game against Tottenham" next week given how well they are playing but the Dutchman says that the team "played well their last year" and they can do it again. It is a big month for the club and everyone knows they must try and win every game from now to end of the season.
