Tottenham progressed into the fourth round of the FA Cup after narrowly defeating Portsmouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Antonio Conte made seven changes to the side who shellacked Crystal Palace 4-0 at Selhurst Park, whilst Pompey's interim manager, Simon Bassey, altered four of Danny Cowley's starting line-up in the 3-1 loss to Charlton.

Youngsters Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr were two of those who were offered starts in North London, whilst there were also some standout performers for some of Pompey's players too.

Harry Kane's 265th goal in Tottenham colours was all that could separate the sides, as the marksman edges closer to Jimmy Greaves' record, with the North London Derby swiftly approaching.

Here are the player ratings for the plucky encounter:

Fraser Forster - 6.5/10

Largely a bystander for the majority of the tie. The former Saints man (who got a rather unpleasant reception from the travelling Portsmouth fans!) was called into action early on when he tipped Reeco Hackett-Fairchild's acrobatic effort round the post. Solid distribution.

Emerson Royal - 6/10

Has been under heavy scrutiny throughout the entirety of his Spurs career and failed to woo the supporters yet again. Came ever-so close with a header which cannoned off of the far post, but offered very little creatively.

Japhet Tanganga - 5/10

A shaky showing from the 23-year-old. Completed 98% of his passes, but that should be a given against a League One side who hadn't won in their previous nine league games. Three fouls committed and seemed like an area Pompey wished to target.

Davinson Sanchez - 6.5/10

Another player who has failed to endear himself to the Tottenham faithful, but the Colombian was arguably Spurs' best centre-half this afternoon. Rarely tested, but, equally, rarely faulted.

Ben Davies - 6/10

Naturally, Davies is a better ball-playing defender than the other two, but he struggled to offer much creatively when sauntering forward, often choosing the simple out-ball to Sessegnon. Rather a bore.

Ryan Sessegnon - 5.5/10

Completed just one of his nine crosses and did not inject much pace at all down the left-hand side. With the on-loan Udogie firing on all cylinders Serie A, this could well be his last season in Lilywhite.

Pape Matar Sarr - 6.5/10

The Senegal international raised a few eyebrows in his showing against Crystal Palace in midweek and provided another promising showing. Most duels won, most tackles won and eleven ball recoveries; could Spurs have a player on their hands?

Oliver Skipp - 5/10

A really poor showing from Skipp. Zero tackles made and missed a sitter to put his side two to the good, recklessly lifting the ball over the bar. Bears uncanny similarities to the likes of Jake Livermore, Tom Carroll and Harry Winks - an average English midfielder produced in Tottenham's conveyor belt.

Bryan Gil - 7/10

Easily Tottenham's brightest spark. Always looked to beat his man and also showed a tenacious side when winning the ball back in important areas. Energetic, but very lightweight and raw and will need to bulk up if he is to truly make it in the English game.

Heung-Min Son - 5.5/10

Another sub-par performance from the South Korean. Forced an intriguing battle between himself and Swanson, which the latter won more often than not.

Harry Kane - 7.5/10

A world class goal from a world class player, you just cannot give this man a yard around the danger area. A tremendous curling strike which gave Griffiths no chance. Aside from that, however, rather anonymous and had to drop deep to be involved.

Djed Spence - N/A

Alfie Devine - N/A

Josh Griffiths - 5.5/10

Spurs only mustered a single shot on target which Griffiths could do nothing about. Therefore, the on-loan West Brom 'keeper didn't make a save. His distribution was not too consistent either, rarely finding a man in a blue shirt.

Zak Swanson - 7.5/10

Whist it may be easy to criticise Spurs' left side, Swanson was largely faultless. Consistently repelled the wide men in Son and Sessegnon and prevented multiple balls from entering the box. Extremely promising and quite possibly a man of the match display.

Michael Morrison - 7/10

An experienced head who offered lots of support to Swanson on the right-hand side. Won most of his aerial battles and helped to keep the scoreline respectable.

Sean Raggett - 6.5/10

Marshalled the backline well with Tottenham unable to carve through the centre of the defence on numerous occasions, leading to speculative shots from outside of the box.

Connor Ogilvie - 6/10

The 26-year-old was part of the Tottenham youth set-up but a fairy-tale return to North London wasn't quite to be. Was the least impactful of the three centre-backs but was solid when called upon.

Denver Hume - 5.5/10

Tasked with having to deal with the effervescent Gil on his left side and struggled to keep up with the Spaniard. When given the opportunity to maraud forward, he gave Spurs some problems, but did not seem up to the challenge from a defensive perspective.

Ryan Tunnicliffe - 7/10

Another man who impressed for the Hampshire side. Tenacious in the tackle and showed great technical ability when on the ball. Certainly gave Skipp something to think about up until the point he was substituted.

Joe Morrell - 7/10

Another level-headed and assured passer in the heart of Portsmouth's midfield. Kept the game ticking and smartly switched the play when necessary. Not as effective in attacking transitions, however.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild - 6.5/10

Forced Forster into a diving save at the near post with a scissor kick in the opening stages of the game, but was rarely involved after that - Portsmouth's only attempt on goal.

Colby Bishop - 5.5/10

Struggled to match the physicality of Sanchez and did not have the pace to break in behind the resolute Spurs defence. Rather anonymous.

Owen Dale - 7/10

Would not stop running and often enforced some turnovers in which the Spurs defenders would hoof the ball up the pitch due to Dale's relentless harrying. Just the one blocked shot, but his efforts should not be ignored.

Louis Thompson - N/A

Josh Koroma - N/A

Michael Jacobs -N/A

Joe Pigott - N/A

Ronan Curtis - N/A

Portsmouth fans - 10/10

Completely out-sang the 50,000-odd Spurs fans in attendance and made their love and support known until the final whistle. Sold out their allocation and a few fans could be seen and heard in and amongst the home section. Fantastic support.
