New Zealand 299-6 (42.5 overs) Elliott 84*, McCullum 59, beat South Africa 281-5 (43 overs) Du Plessis 82, De Villiers 65*, by four wickets (Duckworth/Lewis method).

The Black Caps beat South Africa with a six off the penultimate ball to reach the World Cup final for the first time.

With five needed from two balls, Grant Elliott hit Dale Steyn into the stands to finish unbeaten on 84 and seal a four-wicket win in Auckland and saw The Proteas face their fourth semi final defeat.

Elliott and Corey Anderson's 58 had lifted the Black Caps from 149-4 in their chase of a rain-adjusted 298.

South Africa had earlier posted 281-5, with Faf du Plessis making 82, in a match reduced to 43 overs per side.

The hosts got off to the a good start with Trent Boult taking the wickets of both Proteas openers.

It looked like the New Zealand bowling attack would rip through South Africa's batting line up but Rilee Rossouw (39) and Du Plessis (82) steady the ship and got to 114 before a stunning catch from Martin Guptill saw the end of Rossouw off Corey Anderson's bowling.

This brought Ab De Villiers to the crease. The man who excels at every format of the game, and he showed just why. An explosive 65 not out from just 45 balls including eight fours and one six.

De Villiers hit the ball to all parts of the ground, and made it look extremely easy. His class certainly showed against a strong bowliing attack.

Anderson picked up his second wicket, dismissing Du Plessis for 82. If New Zealand thought they could pick up wickets regularly from then, they were mistaken. David Miller came in and did what he does best. An outrageously attacking and quick 49 from 18 balls saw the left hander rack up six fours and three sixes.

Miller was Anderson's third wicket, finishing with figures of 3-72 off six overs, while Boult finished with 2-53 off nine.

Due to the rain delay, it meant South Africa finished on 281-5 from 43 overs.

The Duckworth/Lewis method meant the Black Caps were chasing a slightly higher score from their 43 overs.

The run chase got off to a good start with McCullum, once again, attacking from the off. His 59 came off 26 balls with eight fours and four sixes.

They then started to stutter. The Proteas got themselves back in the contest with the hosts being contained to 149-4.

This brought Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson together. These two put on 103 for the fifth wicket, Anderson with 58 from 57 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

De Villiers missed the chance to run out Anderson on 33, failing to gather the ball at the non-striker's end with the left-hander well short of his ground.

Elliott went on to see the game home with 84 not out from 73 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes in the process.

Morne Morkel was the pick of the South African bowlers with 3-59.

The win means New Zealand will play the winner of Australia - India in the final.
