West Indies batsmen Shivnarine Chanderpaul has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Chanderpaul retires after 22 years in International Cricket

Chanderpaul made his debut for West Indies in 1994 against England, and 22 years later he has called time on a fantastic career in which he scored over 20,000 runs in the three forms of the game - a fantastic record.

Chanderpaul let it be known to the West Indies cricket board on Friday that he will be no longer available for selection, and the Chairman gave a statement thanking Chandepaul saying "The WICB acknowledges the invaluable contribution Shiv has made to the game globally and we wish him all the best".

Chanderpaul scored 30 centuries during his test career making 164 appearances, and finishes seventh on the all time test runs scorers list with 11,867 runs with an average of 51.37, and he also managed to pick up nine wickets during that time.

Chanderpaul played his last game for West Indies in May

The final game Chanderpaul played for West Indies was back in May against England in Barbados, but after that series had finished he was dropped by the West Indies Cricket board for the following series of Australia as they wanted to give the younger players a chance.

The thing that stood out most about Chanderpaul was his crab like stance at the crease something that was totally unique from any other batsmen in the game, and he made full use of it to become one of the legends of the game.

Chanderpaul has successful spells in domestic cricket in England

Chanderpaul has played domestic cricket in England for Derbyshire, Durham and Warwickshire, and showed his class for all these teams, and kept churning out the runs in all conditions to prove he is one of the best there is out there.

Chanderpaul will be a big miss for the West Indies cricket team as he was the one to stand up when they were in trouble to get them out of sticky situations, and he will always be remembered as a legend of the game.
