Real Madrid's fantastic run against Atletico continues as they beat them 1:2 by an own goal from Juanfran after a Di Maria costless kick and a superb goal from the Argentinian after a great pass by Karim Benzema. Falcao had scored the first goal for Atletico after just three minutes.

Atletico started the game rather furiously. Three minutes into the match, Falcao was able to score the opening goal after receiving a cross from Godin. In general, Diego Simeone’s team looked quite sharp in the beginning. Atletico’s  aggressive style showed clearly the intention to finally beat Real Madrid for  the first time in 14 years.

Therefore it was a big surprise when Real Madrid equalised. The match got dirty and Perez Laza, who was not always accurate, had to book several players.

The first half didn’t have too many chances, and both sides disappointed their fans. Atletico tried to create chances with ball possession as Real Madrid wanted to score on a counterattack. But the only big occasion in the first 45 minutes had Benzema after an amazing dribbling by winger Di Maria. But Courtois won the one on one battle.

In the second half only little should change. Atletico created a couple of average chances, and Real simply focused on defending. Between minute 55 and 60 Atletico finally dominated and got a couple of quality chances, but were unlucky as Raul Garcia and Gabi missed their opportunities to score.

After Perez Laza didn’t give a clear penalty on an Essien foul against Falcao Di Maria showed no mercy and scored out of nothing. Mourinho reacted immediatley bringing on Xabi Alonso to keep more possession and gaining total control of the game.

Atletico looked tired now and Real Madrid were able to control the match without any bigger problems until the end.

Although not an awe inspiring performance, Real Madrid did what was neccesary to defeat their neighbours Atletico. Jose Mourinho’s team made sure second place in La Liga is theirs without losing energy  for the upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund.”
