Bordeaux will feel lucky and relieved as a last gasp winner from Thomas Toure snatched the points from a Rennes side who should have had the match wrapped up.

A win for Bordeaux would have temporarily taken them to the top of Ligue 1, whereas a Rennes victory would have been the all important rest bite needed for Philippe Montanier's side as they come on the back of two 3-0 defeats to Marseille and Toulouse.

Bordeaux started the game strong as Rolan got himself on the end of a cross- he controlled with his chest but curled the shot wide of the goal.

Ntep played the star role along with Abdoulaye Doucoure in the first half, with bith men involved in the first chances for the away side- Ntep's stride mad an opening to pass to an offside Ola Toivonen, whereas Doucoure's shot from close range was off target.

Rennes were the best side for the first half- surprising the Ligue 1 fans as they expected a defensive performance. Bordeaux had a penalty call when Mexer came in contact with Diabate. The referee waved the play on deeming the incident not worthy of a penalty.

The best chance of the first half arrived soon after as captain, Romain Danze cut a pass inside to Ola Toivonen whose shot was palmed to the feet of Doucoure- his shot also forcing the Bordeaux keeper to save.

Rennes goalkeeper, Benoit Costil, was forced into heroics of his own kind when a Maurice-Belay cross met the foot of Diabate which Costil had to get low and save. Ntep pushed on for a Rennes goal bursting towards the line- scramble formed and Carrasso pounced on the ball.

Ntep was the target for both Rennes and Bordeaux and felt the effects of being the main man. Mariano was booked for a challenge on the young Frenchman. As much as Rennes got forward and created chances- they weren't finishing them and the feeling was they could be punished for it.

The second half saw Bordeaux try  and gain a foothold in the game. Just like the first half, it was Rolan with a first half volley which he notched wide. Ola Toivonen, who was mostly silent in the first half, got his foot onto an inviting near-post cross by Ntep, but the pressure from the defender was enough for the shot to hit the side netting and keeping the match scoreless.

Cheick Diabate created a chance for himself as he burst through the trailing Rennes defence but when it came to the finish, his shot was tame and well wide of the goal. Both teams went more attacking as Habibou replaced a poor Ola Toivonen, whilst Khazri replaced Contento for the home side.

Another attacking Rennes substitute, Kamil Grosicki made an instant impact on the game when his cross found Doucoure but Mariano done well to clear from his defence. Another Rennes attack came into frution when Doucoure played a slick pass through the legs of the defender which met Ntep but his poor shooting continued to prevail as Carrasso saved.

Rennes finally got what was coming to them when Bordeaux substitute, Wahbi Khazri opened the scoring in favour of his side. Thomas Toure beat the Rennes defenders on the far side and as he cut in, he made a tight pass to the waiting Khazri who netted from close range.

A quick reply for Rennes was what was required and that came in the form of Rennes substitute Habib Habibou who scored in a similar fashion to Khazri. From the side of the box, Doucoure had his shot palmed out into Habibou's direction and made easy work of putting the ball in the net.

Both teams pushed for a winner, and they had their chances to do so. Diabate had his effort parried by Costil, whereas Ntep's poor shooting was the downfall in his effort as he cut inside the box and decided to shoot rather than pass to his team mate, Pedro Henrqiue- showing his inexperience.

The last passage in play was a major blow for Rennes. Thomas Toure scored a goal of the season contender to win get his side all three points. Toure receives a lay-off from Diabate who curls the ball to the far side of a helpless Benoit Costil who could only get his finger tips to the ball. After kick off the referee brought the game to its conclusion.

Rennes will host RC Lens next Saturday, whilst Bordeaux travel to Stade de Reims.
