On a rainy Sunday evening, John Terry and Diego Costa scored the only goals of the match as Chelsea lifted another trophy at Wembley Stadium, defeating Tottenham 2-0.

After only eight minutes had eclipsed, Branislav Ivanovic had a header from a corner just wide of the far post. Then immediately down at the other end, Christian Eriksen came inches of scoring, but his free kick slammed off of the bar. On thirteen minutes, Eden Hazard received the ball from Diego Costa, but the Belgian could not bend the ball enough as it goes out for a goal kick.

In the 36th minute of the match, Eriksen fires a low shot, but Petr Cech was equal to the challenge as he dove to his right. With just minutes remaining until halftime, Chelsea was able to break the deadlock following a free kick from Willian. Tottenham did not clear their lines at all as the ball fell to John Terry.

The Chelsea Capitan was able to get a good swing at it and his shot took a deflection on its way into the back of the net. Gary Cahill nearly doubled Chelsea’s lead just two minutes later, but his far post header was saved well by Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham busted out of the gates quickly in the second half and Chadli tried to find Rose with a low cross, but it was snuffed out by the Chelsea goalie. Cesc Fabregas tried an audacious attempt from close range, but his bicycle is saved easily by Lloris. Six minutes later, Diego Costa would finally get the Blues second goal on the night after raced into the eighteen yard box. His shot took a bit of a deflection off of the Spurs’ Kyle Walker as it made its way into the far corner of the goal.

That second goal really took all of the air out of Tottenham as they just could not break down Jose Mourinho’s compact defense down at the other end. Following a corner in the 76th, young Harry Kane just missed a header and Erik Lamela was too far away to get on the end of the ball. The Spurs final opportunity of the match came with just three minutes left in normal time, as Harry Kane broke down towards the Chelsea goal, but John Terry made a superb tackle to take away any kind of goal scoring opportunity.

This trophy was well deserved by Jose Mourihno and the rest of the Blues as they dominated most of that second half, while also playing stout defense. Although Tottenham lost this match, the Spurs can use this as a measuring stick to see where they want to be in the future if they want to be able to compete for more trophies down the road.
