Plymouth Argyle have reportedly contacted ex-Reading manager Brian McDermott over the vacant hot seat at the league two outfit.

McDermott, 54, is currently a scout for Premier League side Arsenal after managerial spells at Reading and Leeds United. His Leeds United tenure turned sour after controversial Italian Massimo Cellino took over as owner, as McDermott was sacked then reinstated four days later.

It is believed the 54-year old is keen to get back into the management arena again. His biggest success was when McDermott guided Reading to Premier League promotion in 2012.

The Pilgrims are looking to act quickly after John Sheridan left by mutual consent last week.

Neil Warnock was linked heavily but has reportedly ruled himself out of the job he held between 1995 and 1997.

Other names in the frame include Lee Clark, Ian Holloway, and Darren Ferguson, the pool of managers on offer for the Pilgrims.
