Plymouth Argyle have signed Crystal Palace midfielder Hiram Boateng on loan until January 2nd.

Boateng, 19, has been at Crystal Palace since he was eight and made his debut in a 4-1 defeat to Stoke City in the FA Cup in 2013.

In 2013-14 he had a loan spell at Crawley Town where he made just one appearance before returning to Selhurst Park.

He then secured his future at Palace in March when he signed a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2017.

Last season he appeared 24 times for the Crystal Palace Under-21s as they won the Southern Section for the Under-21 Development League.

Boateng eyes a promotion challenge

Boateng has been attracted by the challenge of promotion and has been impressed by new Plymouth manager Derek Adams, who is keen on the youngster's style of play.

Speaking to the club's website, Boateng said that the move is, for him, "a case of getting experience" which he hopes will be beneficial "in the long run" as he attempts to break into the Palace first-team picture.

He is highly versatile player who can play anywhere across the midfied, with his versatility being shown last season when he scored a Maradona-esque goal against Colchester United.

A busy summer for Plymouth

He comes in as Plymouth's sixth summer signing, joining Jake Jervis, Gary Sawyer, Gregg Wylde, Graham Carey and Josh Simpson.

Should he do well at Plymouth there might be chance for him to shine in the Premier League next season. Palace manager Alan Pardew was said to be fond of him after watching the Under-21s on a number of occasions last season.

He should make his Plymouth debut this Saturday when they welcome Championship side Reading to Home Park. They then face National League sides Torquay United and Forest Green Rovers before opening the League Two season at Wimbledon.
