Having fallen out of favour under the two previous managers Paul Lambert and Tim Sherwood, it is likely that Lowton will look to find a new club this summer.

It is also reported that Middlesbrough are leading the way and would be his preferred destination. After only appearing 12 times last season, Lowton dropping down to the Championship seems to be the right decision for club and player alike.

With Middlesbrough and Norwich both light in the full-back department, Lowton would be a solid and reliable addition to either squad.

Lowton has made 72 appearances since his £3million move from Sheffield United in summer 2012.

If Derby County are to swoop for Lowton, a double move may be on the cards as they're also linked with Villa forward Andreas Weimann.

Most players would stay and fight for their places, but after 12 appearances all season and falling behind Alan Hutton and the versatile Leandro Bacuna in the pecking order, a move away would be suitable.

Lowton's quality is undoubted; however whether he remains with Villa or Norwich in the Premier League with, or a dips down to the Championship with Middlesbrough or Derby, remains to be seen.
