Championship side Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of towering Danish striker Simon Makienok  from Serie A outfit Palermo on a season-long loan, the club has confirmed.

The 24-year-old Denmark international stands at six feet and seven inches, around the same height as infamous Stoke City targetman Peter Crouch, making him the tallest player to ever represent the Addicks.

Makienok made his name in his homeland, first with HB Køge before moving on to Brøndby IF, bagging 57 goals in 128 combined league appearances for the pair.

His big move to Italy has not paid off

He moved on to Italy with Palermo at the beginning of last season with a number of clubs thought to be interested in acquiring his signature, but he made just four goalless appearances in the league, all of which came from the substitutes' bench.

He represented Denmark at three youth levels before making his senior debut in 2013. He has since gone on to win six caps at senior level, though he is yet to register a senior international goal.

Charlton boss Guy Luzon is enthusiastic about his new man, saying that he will offer "a very different threat" in the air but assuring fans that he is "very good with his feet" as well.

Luzon has handed Makienok the number nine shirt for the coming season, and the manager says he will "continue to build the team" in the coming weeks as the new season draws ever closer.

Makienok can't wait to get on the pitch

The forward himself, meanwhile, has been eager to make a good impression to the club's fans, and has been speaking about his first impressions upon arriving at The Valley.

Though he said he had already looked at pictures of the club's ground on the internet, Makienok claimed that his first visit to the stadium gave him "goosebumps", saying that he "can't wait" to get started at his new club where "everything feels right".

Makienok is hopeful that his physique will stand him in good stead in the often physical world of the Football League, which he says he has heard "only good things" about.
