Leeds United have finalised the signing of Excelsior winger Jordan Botaka on a two-year contract, the club has announced.

Botaka, a 22-year-old DR Congo international with five caps to his name, joins up with his new teammates ahead of the international break in hope of making his debut against Brentford in two weeks' time.

He has moved to Elland Road for an undisclosed fee, but was likely a backup option for the club as Uwe Rösler saw his interest in Wolves winger Rajiv Van La Parra brought to a premature end by a serious injury to Nouha Dicko, the Wolves forward.

Botaka pleased with whirlwind move

Botaka has in the past been nicknamed 'The Wizard' due to his skill on the ball, and he furthers Leeds' options in wide positions following the acquisition of Stuart Dallas from Brentford earlier in the summer.

Speaking to the club's official website, the winger said that he was "very happy" to have completed the move, but added that it had all come together "very fast".

Though he was previously aware of Leeds as "a big club", he admitted that he has had to carry out some further research on the club for himself ahead of what he described as "a new adventure for me".

Botaka has spent time around Europe

A former Netherlands U19 international, Botaka joined the Dutch side in 2013 after fruitless spells with Club Brugge and Belenenses, which brought just one league appearance between them. Before his time in Belgium, he had also reportedly had trials with Newcastle United and Lille.

In the 2013/14 season, Botaka scored 10 goals in 36 appearances as Excelsior were promoted to the top flight of Dutch football, under current Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen.

Though he only netted on one occasion last term, he was an important player for the minnows as they retained their status as an Eredivisie side.
