Former Liverpool winger Adam Hammill has been handed a trial at Championship club Bolton Wanderers.

Hammill, 27, became a free agent in September when he left Huddersfield Town. He made 50 appearances for the Terriers between 2013 and 2015 after joining from Wolves.

Hammill fell out of favour at Huddersfield

He did start the season with Huddersfield Town and featured in their opening league game at Hull City and their Capital One Cup game with Notts County. Both appearances came from the bench.

Last season he made 14 appearances on loan at Rotherham United.

Hammill started his career with Liverpool where he was part of the 2006 FA Cup Youth Cup-winning team against Manchester City.

During his time with the Reds, he had a loan spell in Scotland with Dunfermline Athletic. He also had loan spells in the Championship with Southampton and Blackpool before moving onto Barnsley on a permanent basis where made 64 appearances between 2009 and 2011.

After impressing at Barnsley in the Championship, he made a big move to Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. During his time with Wolves he failed to make a lasting impression and made just 23 appearances in two seasons. More loan spells followed, this time with Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town, where eventually moved permanently.

During his earlier playing days, he earned experience with the England youth set-up playing seven times for England Under-19 in the 2006-07. He then made his England Under-21 debut in 2011 against Iceland.

Bolton continue transfer business

He will be looking to become Bolton's tenth signing this season. The Trotters have brought goalkeepers Ben Amos and Paul Rachubka, defenders Lawrie Wilson, Derik Osede, Jose Manuel Casado and Francesco Pisano, midfielders Jon Ceberio and Jordan Lussey as well as forwards Stephen Dobbie and Gary Madine.

Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is also fighting for a contract after he was also given a trial.
